...Protecting the middle class might be the theme of Obama's campaign ads, but the defining movement of this campaign came when Obama belittled the efforts of Main Street America when he stated that "you didn't build that." Those sneering words about smart, hardworking people revealed the ugly side of Obama's redistributionalist ideology. As in 2008, most of the media accept all the carefully scripted images of Obama as Gospel truth while they busy themselves trying to either hide or spin away all those extemporaneous words and deeds that display Obama's true beliefs and character as being either out of context or aberrational....
This campaign is coming down to two competing views of America. As it plays out, I think something very profound may be happening to Mitt Romney. Romney reminds me of a good many smart businessmen I have known. They live their own lives by a set of solid small-c conservative rules, but they are too busy solving smaller daily problems to think much about political conservatism as a coherent system. Such people often pay lip service to the left-of-center conventional media wisdom about big government and public morality even as they rigorously practice all the bourgeois virtues of thrift, hard work, neighborliness, sobriety, and sexual continence in their personal affairs.
....this very smart, very competitive man is facing an opponent who is perhaps the most rigidly ideological man ever to become president. Romney doesn't like what he sees happening to the nation, nor does he much like the person he is running against. Confronted with the problem of beating not just the person, but also the ideology, and then fixing what is broken, Romney may be discovering for the very first time that he is actually far more ideological than he ever thought he was.

Finding out that Mitt Romney is still pro-abortion should shake you a little bit, but something tells me it won’t.
Is the necessity of Conservatism becoming apparent to Mitt in terms of what’s best for the United States of America?
I love spelling out: United States of America. It’s a privilege.

[excerpts]
The First Amendment: The Foresight of Our Founders to Protect Religious Freedom
The first provision of the First Amendment concerns freedom of religion. That guarantee reflected Thomas Jeffersons Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, which declared that no one should suffer on account of his religious opinion or belief, but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion . That assurance has never been more needed than it is today, as liberal elites try to drive religious beliefsand religious believersout of the public square. The Founders of the American Republic universally agree that democracy presupposes a moral people and that, in the words of George Washingtons Farewell Address, Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.
The most offensive instance of this war on religion has been the current Administrations attempt to compel faith-related institutions, as well as believing individuals, to contravene their deeply held religious, moral, or ethical beliefs regarding health services, traditional marriage, or abortion. This forcible secularization of religious and religiously affiliated organizations, including faith-based hospitals and colleges, has been in tandem with the current
Administrations audacity in declaring which faithrelated activities are, or are not, protected by the First Amendmentan unprecedented aggression repudiated by a unanimous Supreme Court in its Hosanna-Tabor v. EEOC decision.
We pledge to respect the religious beliefs and rights of conscience of all Americans and to safeguard the independence of their institutions from government. We support the public display of the Ten Commandments as a reflection of our history and of our countrys Judeo-Christian heritage, and we affirm the right of students to engage in prayer at public school events in public schools and to have equal access to public schools and other public facilities to accommodate religious freedom in the public square. We assert every citizens right to apply religious values to public policy and the right of faith-based organizations to participate fully in public programs without renouncing their beliefs, removing religious symbols, or submitting to government-imposed hiring practices. We oppose government discrimination against businesses due to religious views. We support the First Amendment right of freedom of association of the Boy Scouts of America and other service organizations whose values are under assault and condemn the State blacklisting of religious groups which decline to arrange adoptions by same-sex couples. We condemn the hate campaigns, threats of violence, and vandalism by proponents of same-sex marriage against advocates of traditional marriage and call for a federal investigation into attempts to deny religious believers their civil rights.
..The Sanctity and Dignity of Human Life
Faithful to the self-evident truths enshrined in the declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendments protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the nonconsensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Republican leadership has led the effort to prohibit the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion and permitted States to extend health care coverage to children before birth. We urge Congress to strengthen the Born Alive Infant Protection Act by enacting appropriate civil and criminal penalties on healthcare providers who fail to provide treatment and care to an infant who survives an abortion, including early induction delivery where the death of the infant is intended. We call for legislation to ban sex-selective abortions gender discrimination in its most lethal formand to protect from abortion unborn children who are capable of feeling pain; and we applaud U.S. House Republicans for leading the effort to protect the lives of pain-capable unborn children in the District of Columbia. We call for a ban on the use of body parts from aborted fetuses for research. We support and applaud adult stem cell research to develop lifesaving therapies, and we oppose the killing of embryos for their stem cells. We oppose federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.
We also salute the many States that have passed laws for informed consent, mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health-protective clinic regulation. We seek to protect young girls from exploitation through a parental consent requirement; and we affirm our moral obligation to assist, rather than penalize, women challenged by an unplanned pregnancy. We salute those who provide them with counseling and adoption alternatives and empower them to choose life, and we take comfort in the tremendous increase in adoptions that has followed Republican legislative initiatives. No.
No.
Mitt is not a conservative. You fall for words every time just like eve in the garden.
Did any or all of you Romney supporters reading this know that, or is this a bombshell that just dropped on you 4 days ago?
My position has been clear throughout this campaign, Romney said. Im in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.
(CBS News) In an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, Mitt Romney said his views on abortion rights are more lenient than those put forward in the Republican party platform.

I am supporting the GOP ticket.
You have decided to campaign against it.
They know Obama's true beliefs. This is a coordinated effort being run in concert to change the US. Liberals have taken over the Democratic party and the Democrats are marching us in lock step towards socialism. And they have about 40 percent of the voting mass willing to go along with them. There is no "working together". You're either for cutting spending or your not. You're either for abortion or your not. You're either for illegals or your not. You're either for gay marriages or your not.
Conservatives have better wake up or we're going become another England.
As to the silly notion that Mittler is trending conservative, puhleeze!
As to Mittler's late mommy Lenore, Wikipedia does note that her ill-conceived US Senate race in 1970 was lost to Philip Hart by a 2-1 landslide although Hart and his wife had been arrested in anti-Vietnam War protests. Wikipedia also failed to note that she ran as a full-throated pro-abort pom pom girl (as a Republican no less) more than two years BEFORE Roe vs. Wade. That's Mittler's mommy.
Husband George ran for POTUS in 1968 as a stalking horse for Nelson Rockefeller but self-destructed when he claimed to have been "brainwashed" into supporting the Viet Nam War. As even anti-war Senator Gene McCarthy observed at the time, brainwashing was too drastic when a light rinse would have sufficed. That's Mittler's daddy.
Just WHAT are we expecting of Mittler that is any good whatsoever???
And you are characterizing me from what information? Mitt Romney picked Paul Ryan and he wants to rebuild our economy. I do believe it is possible for him to be moving to the Right -- he has the potential to be a very good president for the country.
One of the quickest way of eliminating abortion is to defund Planned Parenthood. I believe Romney/Ryan will do this once they start taking a knife to the budget. And that’s what frightens the left.
So learning that he lied about his becoming pro-life, and the fact that he reversed himself again so easily, and so soon after locking up the nomination, not even waiting for the election, doesn’t mean anything to you?
How is your Obama cheerleading going on.
I did read the entire Wiki piece before adding it to this thread, as it does describe Lenore’s position on abortion — now Mitt has heard from the base. There is much in that bio of his mother that is interesting. I’m sure she influenced him in many ways. Everyone should read it.
I’ve also linked the GOP platform on abortion above.
And there you go again with the “stalking horse” stuff.
