Is Mitt Becoming More Conservative?
The American Thinker ^ | August 31, 2012 | Rosslyn Smith

Posted on 08/31/2012 12:49:30 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

...Protecting the middle class might be the theme of Obama's campaign ads, but the defining movement of this campaign came when Obama belittled the efforts of Main Street America when he stated that "you didn't build that." Those sneering words about smart, hardworking people revealed the ugly side of Obama's redistributionalist ideology. As in 2008, most of the media accept all the carefully scripted images of Obama as Gospel truth while they busy themselves trying to either hide or spin away all those extemporaneous words and deeds that display Obama's true beliefs and character as being either out of context or aberrational....

This campaign is coming down to two competing views of America. As it plays out, I think something very profound may be happening to Mitt Romney. Romney reminds me of a good many smart businessmen I have known. They live their own lives by a set of solid small-c conservative rules, but they are too busy solving smaller daily problems to think much about political conservatism as a coherent system. Such people often pay lip service to the left-of-center conventional media wisdom about big government and public morality even as they rigorously practice all the bourgeois virtues of thrift, hard work, neighborliness, sobriety, and sexual continence in their personal affairs.

....this very smart, very competitive man is facing an opponent who is perhaps the most rigidly ideological man ever to become president. Romney doesn't like what he sees happening to the nation, nor does he much like the person he is running against. Confronted with the problem of beating not just the person, but also the ideology, and then fixing what is broken, Romney may be discovering for the very first time that he is actually far more ideological than he ever thought he was.

I was very pleased by the American exceptionalism tone of Romney's speech last night.

Just finished reading this Wiki entry (Romney's mention of his mother prompted my curiosity). A biography of Mitt Romney's mother Lenore: Lenore Romney -- worth absorbing.

Hasn’t he already proceeded to marginalize the right, and the tea party, and Palin?

Hasn’t he already switched back to being pro-abortion”

A vote for Mittens is a vote for NOTHING.

A vote for Mittens is a vote against Barry not a vote for Mittens.

A vote for Barry is a vote against Mittens.

Neither elitist snob can define their candidacy beyond the negatives of their opponent.

Lies to get elected. We’ll be living in the United State of Massachusettes soon enough. (As if we weren’t already)

Again, the election is the s*** sandwich or the giant douche.

As long as the conventional wisdom doesn't impact their daily lives in a concrete way, why bother challenging it? They have better uses for their time.

People mistakenly see Mitt Romney as pure businessman, because he was in business off and on for about 20 years, but he has been running for political office for the last 20 years, and was involved in politics to a degree during the 1980s, he was fundraising as a democrat at the beginings of the 1990s, he was political enough in 1979 to leave the GOP because of Reagan.

He is the son of a Governor, and Presidential candidate father, and a Senate candidate mother. he was with his father when they walked out in protest of Goldwater in 1964.

Mitt has always been political, and passionately anti-conservative, he even spent his own money running ads against Steve Forbes and the flat tax in 1996, he used to spend his money to defeat republican candidates and incumbents to replace them with democrats, Mitt has always known his own personal politics.

You are the Romney person, you posted the thread, haven’t those been the highlights of the last couple of weeks?

I know that he returned to his pro-abortion position, and I know that the leader of the conservative movement and national face of the tea party wasn’t there.

And you are decidedly anti-RNC nominee.

I see from your posts on FR, you will be staying busy posting anti-Romney comments.

To me that makes you pro-Obama in the election.

Good to know where you stand.

Hi, CW.

I think he's saying and doing all that he can to be elected.

Many are going with OBA. He scared me when he said that he will replace Obamacare; not to repeal.

Pro-lifers take note: In a CBS television interview, Mitt Romney went further than any previous Republican presidential nominee has gone toward accepting legal abortion.

"My position has been clear throughout this campaign," Romney said. "I'm in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother."

Then work to get a solid GOP Senate, strong conservative state houses.

We don’t have a dictatorship - yet.

With Obama we will continue rolling toward a dictatorship.

I don’t know if Mitt is becoming more conservative but I do know it is possible to change. As conservatives our job is to try to educate people about conservatism so that we can move them to our side.

If we have already adopted the philosophy that people cannot be moved to conservatism then we should just hang it up now, and Rush should just retire and spend his last years playing golf.

Tell me something, and please answer, you are a Romney supporter and vetted him carefully, did you know “throughout this campaign”, that Mitt was a “health of the mother” abortion supporter?
Did any or all of you Romney supporters reading this know that, or is this a bombshell that just dropped on you?

Here is the link to the video.

(CBS News) In an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, Mitt Romney said his views on abortion rights are more lenient than those put forward in the Republican party platform.

“My position has been clear throughout this campaign,” Romney said. “I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.”

You never will slow it down with these types of people. He is apart of socialism already.

Yes, I am helping all that I can do to secure a GOP senate and get conservatives elected to state races; in the event Mittens does not make it.
