I was just looking at a map. The Tangipahoa River goes under I-55 about five miles down from this dam.

Does anyone know how high the interstate bridge is over the river? This could be a major hindrance to relief efforts in the short term and to travel through this region in the long term.

It is low. You don’t get into high, solid bridges until you get into the swampland south of Hammond

When I-55 passes over the Tangi River it is basically just a minor over pass typically like a bridge found on any Interstate passing over a creak or a small stream - there is no major structure just a typical over pass at the same elevation as the rest of the interstate. It is hard to see the actual river during normal times.
