Clint Eastwood will be speaking at the Republican Convention in Tampa on Thursday according to Fox News. The network’s website is reporting that a GOP source confirmed “that Eastwood is indeed the mystery speaker”. Thursday night’s line-up has a “To Be Announced” speaker scheduled ahead of Senator Marco Rubio and GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney himself. Eastwood’s name was floated earlier this week as the speaker along with former VP nominee Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and even a hologram of former President Ronald Reagan. No stranger to politics, Eastwood served as the Mayor of Carmel, California from 1986 to 1988. He supported John McCain in 2008 and endorsed Mitt Romney earlier this month at a Sun Valley fundraiser. “Now more than ever do we need Mitt Romney, I’m going to be voting for him,” the Oscar winner said as the GOP nominee stood next to him on August 4. If Eastwood is really heading to Tampa to speak Thursday evening, he’s going to have to get going soon. Deadline has learned that as of Wednesday afternoon, the actor/director was still at his home in Carmel. Eastwood’s latest film, Trouble With The Curve comes out on September 21, 2012.

I’m confident he and President Reagan would get along very well.
I like Palin. Giving her a speaking role would have been a terrible decision with absolutely nothing to gain. You play to win the game. That’s the goal of campaigns.
So do I, but the "memory jogger" notes written on her hand a few years ago was a BIG mistake on her part, IMHO, it possibly ended her chances on any future political goals.
To this day I find myself whistling the tunes to these movies.
I think Clint is an outstanding pick, but I also wish that they picked Kirk Cameron too (even a ten minute speech).

At this point Palin, who was “borked” in 2008, would just harm more than help if put forth as the face of the party. She certainly represents a good section of it, but Obama’s media made short work of her and the establishment did little to defend her. She’ll always have her fans (including me), but she’ll serve a much more useful role with targeted campaigning than with attempting to win votes on a larger stage.

I love Palin as much as the next conservative woman but she chose to leave her post as governor. She chose not to run for president. She chose to be a commentator. She chose to do a TV series. She seems perfectly happy doing what she’s doing. Why do so many still hold a candle? She moved on and is doing quite well. Why can’t her fan club do the same. She has secured her place in the history books.
I even bet she doesn't run for political office of any sort again, although it could be possible if she is an AZ resident and serves in a cabinet position somewhere (very unlikely) she could mount a senate run.
if Romney wins, she'll be out of any office for 4years, and if he loses and we still have a republic, you'll see people like Ryan at the front.
