Floor fight: Grass-roots activists battle attempt to rig GOP convention delegate rules Updated
http://michellemalkin.com ^ | August 27, 2012 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 08/27/2012 2:32:18 PM PDT by Ron C.

Drew McKissick is a longtime conservative activist and blogger who is in attendance at the Republican National Convention’s Rules Committee meetings. He and others on the ground are sounding the alarm over rules changes that he and many other attendees believe will hurt grass-roots movement conservatives. The battle is being cast by some observers as a narrow fight between Ron Paul advocates and the rest of the party. Drew says that’s not true. And many other state delegations who oppose top-down delegate choices are chiming in.

First, here’s Drew’s call to arms (my emphasis added in bold):

Fellow conservatives,

Those who are in Tampa working to maintain the influence of grassroots conservatives in the Republican Party need your help!

Ive read 2 versions...

1 That it will help Willard this convention

2 that it will help Willard in 2016...

personally I think hes trying to cheat the Conservatives and pro-lifer delegates and get them barred or tie their hands in both conventions...

The gop-e doesn’t care if they win or lose general elections so long as they’re the ones left holding the whip within the gop.

This is about Ron Paul and his followers’ pitiful and deluded attempt to disrupt the convention and make him the nominee.

Seriously.

Many of his young and very naive adherants truly believe this will happen.

Some of his followers masqueraded as being for other candidates in order to get delegate slots.

It’s a shameful display of self-centeredness on the part of Paul, who could put a stop to it if he would. But he won’t. I’m so glad the old coot is retiring.

I continue to maintain that it was a HUGE error for anyone on this forum to give their approval of Romney before the convention was over.

Romney is not the nominee.... Yet.

His handlers seem to think he has already been crowned King.

Rebellion was brewing. Now it’s just appeasement and capitulation.

I will be calling the stupid RNC first thing in the AM!
They will never get another dime out of me if they do this.NONE!!
This is an outrage! Glad the Texas delegation is standing up to this crap.

Mark Levin was talking about this and urging everyone to raise hell with their state GOP and the RNC.

We need all conservative Republican grassroots supporters to contact their state GOP and let them know that they OPPOSE the rules change that will give future presidential campaigns control over who gets to be a delegate (current RULE 15, but is being renumbered to 16)…and OPPOSE the new RULE 12 which allows the RNC to change the rules at any time between conventions.

Oh, yeah, I'll get on the horn to Gerry Parsky at the California GOP right away!

This threat is existential. What the national party "leadership" is trying to force down our throats is analogous to what Rove did to the California GOP.

Yep. Some will use any issue to claim that the answer is ... a 3rd party. If they had a 3rd Party many would not agree with what is going on and form a 4th party ... and on and on. The better option is to work within and persuade as many as possible.

It takes a large group of Americans to win a Presidency and there is no way all those people will ever agree on everything. All we can do is fight and persuade.

The future to the Establishment is Jeb Bush (Romney said that he wouldn’t had jump in the race if Jeb was running)

Since when is Mark Levin a Paulbot? Mark Levin tore the GOP a new one tonight bashing this Rove/Romney/RINO plan. And Steve Deace is picking up the torch and bashing the proposed new rules on his show right now.

I maintain that it is always an error to give aid and comfort to someone who despises what you hold dear. Be it your family, your faith, your love for life, your country or your political philosophy. You won’t change them and they’ll still despise what you hold dear.

Deace is mentioning other new rules in addition to the two discussed in Malkin's article. He is saying these rules are coming from the Romney camp, and another one is that the nominee will have veto power over the party platform.
