Only if people keep repeating the “magical womb” crap that I’m hearing on this thread. Akin was talking about fight-or-flight chemistry and its effects on the body. Can adrenaline suppress ovulation? You tell me. Can it prevent the production of the mucus necessary to sustain sperm motility? You tell me. Can it prevent the contractions of the uterine lining which help propel sperm to the fallopian tube? Again, you tell me. Pregnancy is an EXTREMELY complicated endeavor, and brain and body chemistry is very involved and complex.

Akin was saying that pregnancy resulting from violent rape is very rare - and possibly even moreso because of the body’s response to physical trauma. What did he say that was wrong?

What was wrong was the way the media presented what he said.

Just a reminder: Sarah Palin never said she could see Russia from her door. Sadly, people probably voted against her because they DIDN’T EVEN KNOW that Tina Fey made that all up. If we keep repeating the lie about what Akin said, the same thing will happen. But it won’t be the moron Akin who is most responsible for that; it will be those who repeated the lie as if it was truth.

Regarding ACOG - I think that’s the same group that denies the abortion-breast cancer link, even though at least one study in Australia found a higher correlation between first-trimester abortion and breast cancer than between family history of breast cancer and breast cancer. The results of that study were suppressed because they were too politically inconvenient. The abortion-breast cancer link is another manmade global warming type deal, where politics trumps science - a fact mentioned by even pro-choice researchers who have been vilified because their research shows an abortion-breast cancer link.

So those who don’t know their stuff and talk about “magical womb” are mostly dummies who don’t know enough about the subject to be able to say what the research does or doesn’t support. And those who do know the research have already shown an affinity to lie for the sake of the abortion agenda. And yes, people should be made aware of these facts. If the Akin bruhaha can open up this discussion it will be well worth the initial discomfort with his comments.
