Let me just say this first. I’m pro-life. But Akin’s remarks were beyond asinine and insulting, especially to the thousands of women who get pregnant from rapes each year.

My best friend in high school was raped (yes, “legitimately”) and gave birth to a beautiful little girl who was given up through adoption. She went some through some awful times, went through years of therapy, and managed to graduate college and marry a wonderful man. They adopted two children, and while she still has rough moments, feels herself to be very lucky and blessed by God.

Last night she and I had a long phone call (like the ones we had in our 20s) after her Facebook status sounded awful and I called her up. This Akin business is bringing up all those old horrible feelings again. I’m mad as hell at Akin and those ridiculous doctors who claim that pregnancy from rape is rare, implying that those who DID get pregnant had a high chance of actually WANTING it!! Sickening!

The conservatives who are teaming up with Akin better think long and hard about alienating women, not just lib women but good pro-life women like me who are insulted by the complete disregard for rape victims which I am seeing.

To Akin and your ham-handed “buddies” — YOU ARE NOT HELPING. Shut UP.

Great post and exactly what we don’t need, the rats coming after us as being at war with women. They are desperate for anything to use against us since they have nothing to run on. we don’t have to help them by supporting the wrong candidates.

It was not Akin who said that if you get pregnant from rape it’s because you WANTED it. That is the crap that the stupid psychologist made up when he was trying to say that Akin is subconsciously trying to rape America. These people are agitators. They feed off aggrieved people. Their job is to alienate people from all the real help in their lives and then come in as the government-god to rescue them from all their problems. That’s what “community organizing” is. It’s stirring up pain and strife in order to get power from the stirred-up people.

Your friend is the victim of community organizing. And she didn’t recognize it as such because the “conservatives” piled on with the same crap, in search of a “perfect candidate” to run instead of Akin. Welcome to fallen humanity.

I hate it that your friend had to go through this. That’s what grievance pimps do; they bring up old hurts and alienate people for political gain.

I’ll say it like I’ve said it before: Adrenaline can enable a person to lift a car. That doesn’t mean that if a person gets hit by a car they must have wanted to get hit, or else they would have had the adrenaline to be able to lift the car instead.

That is the leap that people have to make in order to claim that Akin said raped women get pregnant because they WANTED it. That kind of leap is disgusting “science” and a disgusting attempt to hurt those women in a way that Akin never meant them to be hurt.

I’m disgusted with those people, and with anybody who piles on with that same crap rather than point out that your friend and her pain are considered by these grievance pimps to be “collateral damage” necessary to achieve a political end.

If you think it would help, tell your friend that I and so many others hurt with her, respect all she’s been through and the beautiful choices she’s made, and that nobody (including Akin) believes that pregnancy from rape happens because the woman wanted it - or that every pregnant woman who says she was raped is lying about the rape. There are women who lie; UCANSEE2 gave a statistical analysis about that. Those lies hurt the women who really were raped because they make it difficult to know who’s telling the truth. Her struggle makes clear that she was telling the truth, and there is no decent person who would do anything but respect her for how she’s picked herself up after that devastating, terrible thing that was done to her.

We can’t let the agitators divide those of us who all love life. We just can’t. If they see they can get away with it, this will just be the start of the hell they create.

YET.... in your entire lifetime, you can only cite ONE INSTANCE you actually experienced.

I’m mad as hell at Akin and those ridiculous doctors who claim that pregnancy from rape is rare, implying that those who DID get pregnant had a high chance of actually WANTING it!!

The 'IMPLICATION' is only in your own mind. He never said women who get pregnant from rape WANT to be RAPED or have a baby as the result of RAPE.

He was only trying to limit the conversation to LEGITIMATE RAPE, so as to exclude false claims of rape.

The REAL IMPLICATION is that women would LIE about RAPE to get a free abortion, and hide the fact that it was consensual and unprotected (LACK OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY) sex. AND THAT is what is causing the public outrage.

Let me ask you this. What was the ORIGINAL QUESTION that the HOST asked of Akin that produced this response?

I would bet, that without looking it up, you have no clue.

Thank you for your post. Sorry to hear about what your friend is going through. I am shocked by the people who are defending these comments that even Akin has acknowledged were wrong. How are people missing how these comments re-victimize victims? These women who gave birth to their babies under trying circumstances should be lauded for their sacrifice and respect for life, instead of being made to feel small or somehow complicit. I really respect your friend and the decision she made to give that baby life.
