Embattled Senate candidate Todd Akin just told reporters in Chesterfield that he is staying in the Senate race against Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill.

Akin repeated the kinds of statements he'd made previously to national media, asserting that he's never had the support of the Republican party establishment anyway. [...]

The primary only selected the weakest candidate, Akin, because McCaskill ran ads talking about how conservative Akin was - $2m worth.

Heaven forbid the most conservative candidate in the race won because a lefty figured the more he represented the FreeRepublic element of the constituency, the easier he would be to beat. No wonder the GOPe element wanted to run him out. I believe this will prove to be an immense miscalculation for the McCaskill team come November. If the GOPe would get there "asses in line", the victory would be a decisive one. Right now it boils down to how bitter the GOPe element of the electorate is. And, to be honest, once the curtain closes around them to vote, I don't see them being that bitter.

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Michelle Bachmann endorsed Akin for the Senate nomination. So far she has refused to say one word about him one way or the other. Some kind of gag rule . .The only big-name supporters of Akin are Huckabee, Rep. Steven King, Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois.

Bachmann refuses to be connected to Akin in any way, probably a smart move on her part. She has a tough election to win and doesn’t need any “help” from Akin. I can’t blame her, can you? (rhetorical question)

I'm from the conservative group that planned to put in conservatives to control the Senate and House so that a RINO like Romney would not have free rein over the government. The Akinites (outside of Missouri) are part of a group who wants Obama re-elected to teach the GOP Establishment a lesson. In a nutshell, their goal (whether they know it or not) is to make ObamaCare permanent and make his infanticide the law of the land.

That's the second most stupid thing I've heard all day. Good luck with that. But, for as long you toss such vile statements about, you firm the resolve of staunch conservatives in Missouri to support the conservative in the race. So, carry on.

If Akin can win this, then this will be the biggest victory for the Pro-life movement I will have ever witnessed. If we can win here, we can win anywhere. If we can win with Akin we can win with just about any pro-life candidate.

Let us hope that McCaskell has met her Waterloo. She is going to run with this football until she runs out of money and collapses on the field. Let us just pray she is running in the wrong direction.

Go Todd Go!

There is no victory without a fight. We have suffered a wound, but we will fight on to victory! If we don’t fight, we won’t win. Fight on Freepers!

You don’t get it. It’s not about MO anymore. Akin is proving to be a drag on the NATIONAL ticket. If you can’t see this, you’re part of the problem.

Its the other way around... The republican establishments attack on a social conservatives is driving people away.

What part of (outside of Missouri)did you not understand?

By the way, what was the first stupid thing you heard all day if mine comes in second?

We should all agree to take a timeout on the Akin fiasco.

Our attention for the last few days has unfortunately been diverted. Ironically, it derailed the attack on Ryan.

I agree 100%!

I'm leaving the issue with this:

If Akins wins the Senate seat, he can say he did it without the GOP, the RINOs and GOPe.

It will be HIS victory and he will own it.

If he loses. He owns that defeat and the results of it. Nobody else.

It’s #ing amazing how much support Romney gets despite his voting record on abortion, yet this guy gets persecuted for a valueless adjective and a dubious theory. Nothing but petulance and hypocrisy at extreme levels.

That is exactly what I understand is resonating at the local levels in Missouri. Thankfully, it appears the GOP has shifted into "no comment" mode for damage control, which I think is wise. But it will take a week for that message to trickle down to the blog level. But, give it a week. I firmly believe the coming outlook is far rosier than fellow FReepers would have us believe today. The knee jerk is over.

God's talking about anger w/o justification in the first instance. An insult indicating contempt of a bro is the subject of the second and the third is an insult of contempt directed at the Holy Spirit.

Akin's just a simple fool, as in "baca!"

Not really. Romney was nominated knowing full well he is a flip flopping RINO who had conveniently entered the primary claiming to have had a "change of heart" on his views on abortion.

Don't blame me I voted for Newt.

Good!

Now it’s time for a bunch of whining, stuck pig little sissies to man up and support our candidate in Missoura, because we damn sure need him to win.

Nothing else will do.

Time to stop crying and start fighting.

They do think that fool Akin and his chorts will force raped women to bear any forced pregnancy that results, at gun point....They're going to need powerful medicine to wipe that image out of their minds.
Are you well read on abortion? It doesn't seem like you are. This from the Elliot Institute:
Although pregnancy weakens suicidal impulses, there is strong evidence that abortion dramatically increases the risk of suicide. According to a 1986 study by researchers at the University of Minnesota, a teenage girl is 10 times more likely to attempt suicide if she has had an abortion in the last six months than is a comparable teenage girl who has not had an abortion.(2) Other studies have found similar statistical significance between a history of abortion and suicide attempts among adults. Thus, the actual data suggests that abortion is far more likely to drive an unstable woman to suicide than is pregnancy and childbirth. --Elliot Institute
Much more at the link. Why not learn something about the hazards of abortion before you pop off with crazy remarks? Abortion kills a child and does enormous emotional damage to the mother. (Add in rape, and an abortion is all the more tragic.)

Why are abortionists trying to justify the murder of babies by piling on rape and incest? Why does it matter if rape and incest caused the pregnancy? Killing a child for the sake of convenience IS MURDER! The aborting “mother” is a murderer and so it the murdering “doctor”.

Don’t turn a rape into murder.
