As the controversy over Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” comment continues, Mitt Romney’s lead in Missouri has vanished.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Missouri Voters finds President Obama with 47% support to Romney’s 46%. Three percent (3%) favor some other candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) more are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Methinks Republicans in Missouri are SO eager to see Akin withdraw that ton$ of $ would flow in to whoever gets named. RNC would restore $5 million. Votes would follow. At one time Steelman polled 11 points over Mother McCaskill.
But Akin will have to petition court first and their decision must run by the SOS. She being a rabid Dem.

No. The Democratic Convention on Sept 3-5 will enshrine Akin into a household name. About 10 days away.

If people are ignorant enough to reelect Obama because of what Akin said, there is nothing that can help them. Obama has showed them, and they like it.
I can only hope the people of Missouri are smarter than what the polls are showing right now.
Agreed. And the situation is going to fester as the days go by. In their wildest dreams, the Dems couldn't have orchestrated a more destructive October surprise than this.
Akin has to withdraw quickly in order to get the Courts to approve the substitution. Sufficient public pressure will be put on Carnahan and others to approve the switch.
However, if he delays, then the courts and Carnahan will be a lot less friendly — and get away with it.

Disheartening, but not unexpected. I agree Akin has to go. Like it or not, the reality is his gaffe has destroyed his chances at winning the Senate race. What he said isn’t a case of “stand up, chuck” or “all 57 states”, it’s in the league of George Romney’s brainwashing comment of Jerry Ford’s assertion that Poland wasn’t under Soviet domination in 1976. He’s not going to get out from under this in time for election day, and is likely making matters worse through his refusal to step down.
As for Missouri, though, I believe it can still be won even with the Akin factor. He’s hurt the GOP, no question. But I do believe enough voters will look at more than just Akin to make victory possible there. Republicans at every level will have to disown Akin - not just distance themselves from him, but completely disown him - but I think it can be done. Of course, it would be better to make the Akin matter go away entirely by getting him to step down in favor of a Sarah Steelman or the like. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t write of Missouri just yet.
How stupid are these voters? What impact could Akin's verbal gaffe have on their personal lives? He apologized and explained what he meant. He committed no crime. He didn't display his private parts over social media, he didn't consort with prostitutes; he didn't have sex with interns in his office; he didn't leave a women to drown in an overturned car; he didn't lie under oath; and he didn't run a homosexual prostitution ring from his house.
My God, what the Hell did Akin do to deserve such condemnation? He has an exemplary voting record (97.24 lifetime ACU rating and an A+ score from NumbersUSA on immigration,) 24 years in elective office at the state and federal level never losing an election; a devout Christian, a former Army officer, a good family man with 6 children--three of his sons have served in the US Marine Corps with two on active duty.
I blame the GOP for the current situation. They could have handled the situation much better. They could have disassociated themselves from Akin's remarks, noted that he has apologized and explained his improper use language; and then said we should move on to address the concerns of Missouri voters on such issues as jobs, the economy, Obamacare, etc. Instead, one day after Akin's gaffe, they launched into a huge blitzkrieg on Akin. The GOP joined into the MSM manufactured hysteria much to the delight of the Dems. The GOP made it a national issue.
25% are no exceptions, the other 25 are with some exceptions. Akin has made himself toxic to at least 75% and of the no exception types , he has tarred all of them with his idiocy. there are sane empathic no exception types who don’t go blabbering incoherently about the magic uterus and with an affect akin to Jim Jones.
You think the average voter pays attention to stuff like we do? No!
They'd proudly, and with utter conviction of their righteousness, turn their back on a candidate who would commit to eliminating 99.9999% of abortions.
And they're well represented on FR. They are the folks who support Tom Hoefling.
I’m just sitting here in utter amazement colossal political ignorance and stupidity of the pro Akin crowd. He cannot win, period. It doesn’t matter what a good guy he is, how pro life he is and has been, or what a faithful conservative legislator he has proven to me. He can’t win. Did I mention that he can’t win. Any competent political professional will tell you the same thing. Failing to recognize this unfortunate circumstance is to pretend that the problem does not exist. WE have to do something about it. We can persuade him to leave the race, replace him with a good, solid conservative candidate, and sail to victory in November. Or we can lose to McCaskill. Most reasonable conservatives understand this. Some don’t.

Completely agree. I have defended many conservatives in the past when the media was attacking for no valid reason. Akin’s wound, however, is self inflicted. What should have been an easy win for Republicans isn’t now, and that’s his own fault. Hopefully, he will realize it’s not all about him, and drop out.
It is not a question of intelligence. People just don't want to hear this crap or be associated with it. They want it to go away.
Pro-Life leaders (and their followers) who are supporting Akin to stay in the race must not give a damn about ending or reducing abortion. The GOP candidate who replaces Akin (and wins easily) will be a pro-life vote. McCaskill is not. MO for Obama doesn’t save any babies either. Way to go mouth breathers!
