Todd Akin hasn't had many high-profile supporters with him in the trenches this week, but Mike Huckabee became an important and emphatic exception Thursday afternoon, sending a message to his own supporters accusing Republican elites of trying to drum a good man out of a winnable Senate race. Here's what Huckabee said in an email to his list this afternoon:
Partys leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound.

I rarely say this about another human being, but I actually, truly, despise Akin. I have never witnessed such damned selfishness and arrogance in a would be political figure who could easily have done the right thing early. Mr. Akin, if you or any of your sycophants read this, know that God may forgive your sin but I never will. I cannot even stomach your despicable face, which has that unintelligent “brain” behind it.

I am opposed to abortion as the national methodology for birth control. Given that even our unborn are already placed into servitude before they ever draw breath. Now if the 'life' of the mother is literally in danger I am not going to tell the mother she should die to save the unborn nor would I tell her that she must live and let the unborn child die. That is God's territory for me. He is the one that gives life and also has the authority to end a flesh journey. I cannot for one minute think that a miscarriage is the end of the 'life', so why would I think the depraved acts of evil people end the 'life' through abortion.
I know beyond any shadow of doubt that alll conceptions result in the placement of a soul from the Creator. And that means none of the adults can take 'salvation' from the unborn. I am pro-life and I am anguished beyond words that we as a nation with hardly a second thought have made abortion common, acceptable, and upon demand.
I also know just talking about the evils of abortion without an elected authority to do something is vanity.
“The Akin Assault by the GOP is not just another indication that social conservatives are unwelcome in the Republican Party. It is an attack designed to destroy any voice they might have.”
The Geriatric Old Plotters have defended their bunkers, as I knew they would.
“The Tea Party will take back the GOP!”
No. The GOP coopted the Tea Party.

I was not a fan of Mike Huckabee when he ran for president but when a man is right he is right. It has been amazing to watch how studiously his facts have been ignored and his character smeared in an attempt to discredit his words.
“Well I disagree with you. No way he would be 10 points down over a single stupid comment without Romney and co digging his grave”
They have had a lot of practice in the past 5 years or so. Its their party now.
I am opposed to abortion as the national methodology for birth control...Now if the 'life' of the mother is literally in danger I am not going to tell the mother she should die to save the unborn nor would I tell her that she must live and let the unborn child die...So if mothers are not using abortion for birth control, are you for it? And even the Catholic Church doesn't think a woman should give up her life for her unborn if she's truly in danger of losing hers. That situation is very rare anyway. I'm not sure what you meant in your last line regarding vanity as everyone is "elected" by God to push His agenda. Could you embellish on that?

What are you talking about???
Don’t you even read the articles at the heads of the threads???

I agree with you. Too bad there’s not more people like us.
You betcha the weasel is referring to Sarah Palin.
What facts of Akins do you claim have been ignored?
Sorry Mike, you’re wrong on this one.
So is Todd.
And I am part of your “base” demographically.
What other purpose is an abortion outside of the 'rare' exceptions, but birth control?
That Akin is a political pilgrim being bullied?
Huckabee doesn’t have good judgement as to when someone should be forgiven and what actions should follow that forgiveness. Notoriously bad judgment.
The chronology is breathtaking. The speed and orchestration of the GOP response are clear signs that Akin's comments were being used as a pretext to get him out of the race before the Tuesday deadline. And much that has been written and said is factually incorrect. We are being told that McCaskill funded Akin's campaign by some sort of Machavellian ledgerdemain. Anyone reviewing the McCaslill campaign ads here can see clearly how viciously she was attacking him. Moreover, she created ads against the other two Reps as well.
By responding the way they did, the GOP is going to lose in the long run even if they force out Akin. The proper response should have been a statement disassociating the GOP from Akin's inartful use of language, acceptance of his apology and explanation, and finally, saying it was time to move on to those issues that are affecting the voters of Missouri--unemployment, Obamacare, debt and deficit, etc. That wasn't done because there was an agenda at play. A good and decent man has been sacrificed to the money-changers who run the GOP.
He’s right on the money this time. At any rate his facts about the internal GOP assault have nothing to do with his judgment. They are what they are.
Social conservatives have never been welcome in the GOPe.
It’s interesting how what Akin allegedly said is being blown into things he never said, with the GOPe gladly contributing to the falsehoods.
The man is pro-life and people like Rove want him gone.
