This story is NOT going to die down. The 'Rats are going to whip this into a frenzy at their convention, and are going to keep picking at the scab throughout the entire campaign. Why do you think all of a sudden Sandra Fluke is going to be speaking at their little arty?

They're already tying Akin to Paul Ryan. Akin has done horrific damage - he needs to get out NOW.

It won't. The only surprising aspect of this is that it's this close. Someone needs to convince Akin that God wants him to drop out.
