I swear - some people on this site must live in a cocoon.
LOL--no, the GOP junkies who populate FR live in the cocoon. The fact is that even with the wall-to-wall media coverage, almost nobody out there in the real world knows who Todd Akin is and for those that do, this story is already last week's news.

As soon as his comments were published, it was over.
When there's a Fire, you blame the guy holding the matches, not the people in the Bucket Brigade who don't have enough water to put it out.
I think the Clue Store opens at noon. They're having a sale.

That election was lost the day he won the nomination. He was pre-destined to say something stupid at anytime. Yep. That's why McCaskill's supporters sank $1.5 million towards Akin's campaign. Turned out to be money well-spent.

21 point switch since last week.
This isn’t some negative bump as some of the Akin supporters claim...its a complete crash and burn.

surely there is some DIRT on mccaskill that can be aired that is far worse than what Akin said. She is, afterall, a democrat. THey eat their young, dont they?
To: so_real
It's a negative bump. We see bumps all the time. They level out. This one too. For a man of Todd Akin's voting record, it is worth riding this bump out No. It won't. You can flash that "Todd Akin on the Issues" list here on FR every day until Nov 6, but it's not going to help him with the voters in MO. He is going to lose this race badly, and there is a major risk of losing a chance to take the Senate.. AND.. now the top of the ticket is likely going to have some unforeseen trouble.

If Akin stands firm and the GOP quit acting like democrats, he'll win and we gain a Senate seat.
Gloria Allred has more chance of becoming president of Family Research Council than Akin has of becoming a Senator.
All wholehearted GOP support of Akin would do is cost them the Presidency, a couple of other Senate races, and maybe 4-5 House seats. However, it WOULD help Akin to lose by, say, 8 points instead of 10.

This isnt some negative bump as some of the Akin supporters claim...its a complete crash and burn. Yes, it is. And he has to go now.

So, does Akin appoint his “successor”? I’d LOVE to see Brunner on the ticket.

If we were prohibitive fqaqavorites to take the Senate as you sy and as I bwlieve we still are, the loss of one victory does not change it to even odds. If that is the case we were never “prohibitive” favorites to begin with.

I seriously doubt Akin could be re-elected to his House seat at this point. The nut is radioactive.

“Any other State we can focus on to pick up a Senate seat?”
McMahon (in CT) is surging against Murphy. If she keeps beating Murphy over the head with his Obamacare votes, she might win.
Lizzy Borden Warren seems to be fading in MA. I know Scott Brown isn’t everyone’s favorite Republican, but he is better than the Indian Made-up.
Sherrod Brown in OH (or as Obama spells it OIHO) is fading against Josh Mandel.
To: Strategerist
Not so. When Bin Laden was brought to justice, Obama enjoyed a 6 point bump that lasted ... two weeks. If the GOP wises up and fights back against the democrat hypocrisy instead of encouraging it, this whole verbal miscue will disappear in two weeks.

And for the first time Barry can actually tell a joke about an R candidate and I grudgingly have to acknowledge that he isn’t in the wrong with a cheap shot.

Jeez, the way people here are talking, you would expect Akin to be down at least 40.
