#MOSen: moved the race to Likely Democrat. As long as Akin is running, it is unwinnable for Republicans. If he exits, it's back to Toss Up.

“What goes around comes around. I’m sure we can find some Democrat running in a primary somewhere who makes Al Franken seem stable by comparison. And we’re gonna make sure he has the biggest Primary war chest EVER!”

You mean, like Obama?

“Sharon Angle and the witch from Delaware ....” LOST.

Akin joins that dubious list of primary winner mistakes.

Oh, well.

Shift funding to other races and hope and pray for the best, I guess.

And I completely agree about McCaskill`s strategy here. Before all this I considered her a dunce, and was I wrong. We can despise her, and I do, but from a solely strategic standpoint, I am highly impressed.

I hope Republicans would watch and learn, because they could win a lot more races if they had campaign tacticians like McCaskill`s. They did extensive opposition research, honed in on their target of choice, gave him an artificial lift, handed him just enough rope to hang himself (they didn`t even have to form the noose) and set themselves up to move in for the final kill against a withered, weakened and isolated opponent.

This issue has become bigger than Akin, and thanks to the MSM, it will remain that way until the election. The Dems have already attached the albatross that is Akin to the neck of the Romney/Ryan campaign.

All of the networks are reading from the same Dem talking points. After Sandra Fluke was made a mockery of, this has now put 'women's reproductive rights' back on the front burner, elbowing out the real issues that R&R were gaining traction with - economy, unemployment, national debt, Medicare, rising gas prices, etc.

Right or wrong .. apology or not ... Akin needs to stop being a distraction, and he does that by withdrawing from the race.

We can only pray, but Akin would have lost my vote simply for refusing to step down and putting the cause in jeopardy.

I don’t like people who are so attached to power that they lose site of the cause for which they are elected. That alone makes Akin’s a loser in my book.

What the HELL were Missouri Republicans thinking? It’s not like Akin was unopposed, he had decent conservative opponents in Steelman and Brunner. Did they fall for McCaskill’s ads? I’d like to think we’re not that stupid...

No. The dems are full of kooks and loose cannons that are protected by the media. Biden being a notable one. There is a double standard. ANY sloppy statement or gaffe by a republican is amplified and filtered by the media. Given the media situation we have to avoid giving our enemies ammo. That’s just how it is.

Republicans could have easily used this as an opportunity to get on the offense about dems and partial birth abortion. Inbut NO ......
