Akin released a statement and said he misspoke.
Biggest shock is watching how quickly GOP establishment will throw Akin under.
McCaskill is Obama’s favorite Senator.....Does getting back the GOP majority and removing McCaskill no longer a big deal to these fools?
A conservative literally cannot make a human error in speech without the selective outrage crowd pouncing. I’ve never seen anything like it
Not only is this guy going to blow his lead with this statement but this may reverberate among the national press and other Dem candidates for days painting all Republican candidates with the statement. You know the press is going to ask Romney if he agrees with the candidate’s “legitimate rape” comment to try to tether him to it. We do not need Republican candidates supplying the DNC with fodder for their war on women narrative grist mill.
What a stupid comment. That is the type of comment that can cost a candidate a lot of votes.
Todd Akin, RINO candidate for US Senate, bought and paid for by Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill.
Well, looks like my initial worries about his candidacy are correct. And the most likely loss for the Dems is no more. A few ads with this and no way in hell she can lose this race.
Switch him NOW. The Senate hangs in the balance. It wasn’t out if context. It wasn’t a misquote. It was sheer idiocy that he won’t recover from. He should do the right thing for the good of the Republic which cannot afford a single unexpected loss
There might have been a day when a Republican politician could get away with saying that. There might again come such a day, although that’s far less probable. Let’s all agree that it is not this day. This guy’s going to get shelled.
What an idiot.
Just....wow.
Regardless of what he meant to say, this has ruined whatever chance he had.
Idiot.
I’m getting the impression that Aiken is a nut case.
What he said, 'they are UNLIKELY to get pregnant.
Amazing how slowly the actual comment changes.
Well, I had a hard time believing anyone (apart from Biden) could have made such a dumb@ss statement in this day and age. But sadly, I went on to read some of the comments of freepers here who believe that real rape victims don’t get pregnant.
Apparently we can do away with police reports, judge and jury. Just wait 9 months to see if a baby pops out. If so, charge the alleged rape victim with filing a false police report. We would have to wait the full 9 months, since “female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” I’m feeling kind of nostalgic, maybe they can bring back “she deserved it for dressing that way*.”
I guess if people didn’t want to wait 9 months to be certain, maybe we could use some slightly modified tried and true tips from Salem. Tie the alleged rape victim’s legs and hands together and throw her in a lake. If she floats, then she wasn’t raped and can be charged with making a false accusation. If she drowns then she was “legitimately raped,” and her honor can be restored.
At no time should there any investigation into the alleged rape suspect, because these new methodologies are fail proof.

*After writing this, but before posting, I went back to read the comments posted in the interim, and “she asked for it” has now been reinstated as a legitimate reason for rape. (Not to be confused with a legitimate rape).
I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. He’s a good man and so many people here are freaking out. It’s ridiculous! Here is the latest statement from akin.org.
Akin Statement on “Jaco Report” Interview
St. Louis - Congressman Todd Akin just released the following statement regarding his interview on the “Jaco Report” broadcast this morning in St. Louis:
“As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it’s clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.
“I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.
“But I also believe that this election is about a wide-range of very important issues, starting with the economy and the type of country we will be leaving our children and grandchildren. We’ve had 42 straight months of unacceptably high unemployment, trillion dollar deficits, and Democratic leaders in Washington who are focused on growing government, instead of jobs. That is my primary focus in this campaign and while there are those who want to distract from that, knowing they cannot defend the Democrats’ failed economic record of the last four years, that will continue to be my focus in the months ahead.”
Someone please Send this man to a a 5th grade health class.
He obviously trying to say that if it is a real rape and not a case of someone accusing someone of Rape when they were willing accomplishes, and then changed their mind or felt spiteful.
His premise is pretty lame though- For sure. He seems to be saying that a woman’s emotional state at the time of sex has a bearing on if she gets pregnant or not.
But I think that people here are trying to act like this is something it is not. You are acting like people from DU. Use your brains a little.
Really stupid if true, no such thing as “legitimate rape”.
Get Steelman in, Atkins is done.
This guy obviously wasn’t ready for prime time.
I can only assume he was trying to say that the exceptions for abortions, ie rape and incest are red herrings, if that is what he was trying to say, I agree, however too bad he had to say what he said.
Maybe people should have taken Gov Palin`s lead regarding Sarah Steelman, she was pro life and would not have said that, I suspect
