A jury on Wednesday found a California man guilty of murdering five people who had heart attacks after he deliberately started a blaze that ballooned into a massive wildfire. Jurors in San Bernardino found 30-year-old Rickie Fowler guilty of setting the Old Fire in the foothills above San Bernardino in October 2003 that burned 91,000 acres and torched 1,000 buildings over nine days.
Prosecutors charged Fowler with the murders of five men, ranging in age from 54 to 93, who died from heart attacks after their homes burned to the ground or as they rushed to evacuate. Fowler also was convicted of two counts of arson, along with special circumstances that make him eligible for the death penalty.

It means nothing.
Ca has no death penalty.
This guy is an animal. He was convicted of sodomizing a fellow inmate and got 3 25 year to life sentences.
Well, they have a "sit by yourself in a death row cell for the next 60 years or so and think about what it's like to be outdoors in this weather without walls around you" penalty.
Pretty nasty IMO.
guilty on five counts of first-degree murder and two counts of arson in the 2003 Old Fire
Not the golfer.
Not me!
In California Death-Row inmates have more privileges than any other inmates! And...they have contact visits! Not bad, taking into account the lowered expectations of any incarcerated person.
Arsonists are some of the most evil criminals we are faced with. They care not what evil their actions can cause; death, untold millions in property damage and the heartache of people losing everything dear to them in their lives.
Convict, sentence and hang swiftly in a public setting.
I’d still like to see a sentence of MOD:
Mandatory Organ Donor
Only in this way can any good from the punishment. Yes, it is ghoulish.
He’ll be on die-of-old-age row.
With a big screen TV a computer and exercise time.
And quite honestly, as crappy as this guy is, can you call it murder?
Convict, sentence and death by immolation.
It wouldn’t have to be public, I could live
with pay TV.
This guy is a POS. He caused major damage and several people died in the wake.
But part of why fires are so severe out there is because the Gubermint wont allow the dead growth to be cleared
“The charges against Fowler signaled a tough new standard for arson cases in a region plagued by wildfires that sometimes claim the lives of firefighters and civilians.”
Ca is just totally ****ed up.
And the best healthcare taxpayer money can buy. Should he ever need a transplant of any kind he’ll go the head of the line.
Per Posts 6 and 7 - As a big favor to the celebrity, FR should do what AP should have done and append to the title:
"(NOT the golfer!)"
And in 1964 another guy named Romney stomped off stage and refused to endorse or support the nominee.

“While in prison awaiting trial, Fowler was convicted of sodomizing a jail inmate and sentenced to three, 25-years-to-life prison terms.”
OK, I’m confused. Did he get 3 25-life terms for that act? Or did that sentence have something to do with the fire-related deaths?
In any event it sounds like the formerly great state of California wants to be sure this guy stays behind bars, where he manifestly belongs.
so, good on them for that.
“Arsonists are some of the most evil criminals we are faced with.”
Yes, I’ve always thought arson is one of the worst crimes. You never know what damage you can do, and if you’re committing arson, you don’t care.
An article another Freeper posted above says in answer to your question that yes, because of the three strikes law, he got the three 25-year sentences because of the sodomy:
“Fowler is found guilty . . . of three felony counts of sodomy by force on another inmate at West Valley Detention Center (he was in this detention center because of another crime he committed, not related to the fire). The (sodomy) incidents occurred in August 2010. Jurors also found “true” each of Fowler’s two prior strikes, thus allowing each count to result in a 25-year-to-life prison sentence, according to prosecutors.”
There’s some other interesting stuff in there about him requesting Kosher food in jail because he’s becoming a Jew.
But he looks like such a nice boy. I wonder what went wrong?
