BALTIMORE A coalition of African-American churches is holding a prayer vigil to highlight its members opposition to gay marriage and urge Marylanders to vote against it.
Members of the National Black Church Initiative will gather to pray at Israel Baptist Church in east Baltimore on Wednesday.

then they will give a talk about how to get out and vote for obama anyway because he is a ‘brutha’
There were black families at Chick-fil-A for the protest. They quietly sat there with the rest of us... all of us with happy smiles on our faces. We stand with them in desire to keep marriage between one man and one woman.
Can’t wait for the homosexual protestors to stage a “kiss-in” outside the church.
I’m not sure that they will be able to vote for Obama this time, because of the emphasis they place on this issue. They may just stay home.
Yes, and I think this issue just may prevent some of them from being able to stand with Obama in November.
I hope you’re right. I’ve seen quite a few interviews with African-American pastors who were incensed - even to the point of saying they were betrayed - by O’s support of same-sex so-called marriage. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in November. Still, it’d be interesting to see some polling on this issue.
Not so fast. What’s the first rule if you want to win? Don’t undercut potential allies for doing the right thing.
And the homosexuals framing it as a "civil rights" issue rubs salt in the wound.
Have you heard any pastors making that point in their interviews? It needs to be said, over and over again. This is in no way comparable to discrimination based on inherent characteristics like race or gender.
Right on!
It is true irony that blacks now support the Dems, after their terrible history together, but have a problem over something which does not threaten their survival.
This threw a wrench in the liberal press. How can they possibly attack blacks for being anti-gay. OH, thats right they didnt. Funny how much of a little blip this story is. Doesnt even have a photo of the angry homophobe gay-hatter mob .
The last time I was in Baltimore the local officials were trying to position them as the Gayest Friendliest City Ever.
Perhaps these ministers should pay more attention to local elections.
Visualize ANY religious entity publicly considered ‘white’ making this statement.
It takes a lot more courage for blacks to stand against liberal elites than it does for us to stand against liberal elites. Best we just say a prayer for them and leave it at that...
