Obamas Tap White House Home Beer

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has become one of the first modern day U.S. presidents known for enjoying a cold beer that is brewed and tapped right at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Obama aides on Tuesday confirmed the small brewery during a three-day re-election campaign tour across Iowa. An official admitted the Obamas have their own alcoholic beverage made and kept in stock at the White House.

Revelations about the White House beer came to light after the president gave a bottle of it to a patron at a coffee shop he was visiting in Iowa. The gift prompted the press corps traveling with Obama to ask for more details and White House spokesman Jay Carney was peppered with questions about the first family's beverage of choice.

This homebrewing at the White hut is old news. Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer was served some the the homebrewd Honey Ale last Sept. Small batches have been served previously, at Super Bowl and St. Patrick’s Day parties.

Right on. The White Hut doesn't have "Home Beer". Home beer is beer made by the homeowner.

Obama declared "let there be beer", and the taxpayer paid servants prepared beer. That's as commercial as Budweiser, though probably not as good.

Geez, they make it seem like the Obama’s have a micro brewery in the basement.

Probably a few 5 gallon carboys going at a time and Obama has NOTHING to do with any of it.

I used to have 20 gallons going a week. Most time consuming thing is the waiting. A large majority of the time is spent with the fermenting beer in a dark closet.

Actually its not at all illegal. this may actually be the first interesting thing he has done in office. LOTS of fellow Freepers are home brewers as well :) there is even a thread/ping list.

Stone is on of my fav brewers. They make beer of unusual depth and complexity. I'd be surprised if the metrosexual Complainer-in-chief could appreciate anything with a bite - he likes wagu beef and arugula, probably not a muscular, over-hopped American IPA...
