You obviously have no military experience.

You obviously are not very intelligent. I’m a Viet Nam era veteran!

I an an expert rifleman, member of the NRA and hunt each year. During the year between hunting seasons I only shoot my guns to sight them in. The “science” that comes naturally is to understand how the rear sight and front post align on the target or how the cross-hairs on the scope align on the target. There is nothing else to know.

You don’t need to be a “Rambo” or some type of an action figure to be a deadly shot. When (and if) the civil war begins, I will be taking out targets at a much longer range than you and your pistols and semi-automatic arsenal.

Quite a few firearms skills are perishable. "Riding a bike" only works to an extent. Yes, you may be able to still get on and peddle, but you won't be doing much in the way of the trick riding you used to be able to do.

Hunting once or twice a year is a far cry from practicing 3-gun drills weekly, staying in shape, and knowing your gear because you use it regularly...

I, too, am familiar with the Garande as well as the AR-10, which I prefer over the M-16, that I hate.
Most "gun collectors" will be first noticed at your front door, and will probably start as a handgun conflict, then escalate to a greater distance.
That is, unless you know someone who will give you a heads up that they're coming.
So a box of ammo a month spent in practice is a good investment.
