Obama: 'Chicago Is an Example of What Makes This Country Great'

Obama: 'Chicago Is an Example of What Makes This Country Great' Daniel Halper August 13, 2012 8:58 AM

In campaign remarks yesterday at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, President Barack Obama praised his adopted city, where he lived before becoming president of the United States. "Chicago is an example of what makes this country great," Obama said. His audience applauded.

President Obama's proof for his assertion? The donors in the room, who had given to his reelection campaign. "Witness this room," Obama said. And he elaborated: "[W]e've got everything we need to make things work here in America. We still have the best workers in the world. (Applause.) We've still got the best entrepreneurs in the world. We've got the best colleges, the best universities, the best scientists, the best researchers. We're a young nation, and we've got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe."

But what President Obama did not address is Chicago's homicide rate, one of the highest in the nation.

"[M]ore Chicago residents -- 228 -- have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan - 144 -- over the same period," the Huffington Post noted in June.

"The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data. Chicago's murder rate is also currently quadruple that of New York and double Los Angeles' rate."

CBS blames Chicago's crime statistics on gang violence:

There are 228 dead: That's the number of murders this year in Chicago. It's nearly twice as many as the number of Americans lost on the battlefields of Afghanistan over these last six months. And the number of deaths is up 35 percent over the same period last year.

There was a time it was called "gangland" Chicago and maybe that time has returned.

Chicago's mayor, Rahm Emanuel, was formerly President Obama's chief of staff.

Yep, and that is what may have “turned off” the IOC folks BIGTIME.

When a city wants to get an olympic sport events, and this is my guess, I think it is the Mayor of the city in question and that country’s olympic commitee. Plus what also helps is a legendary sports figure or two from the country in question. Pele, though long out of the sport of soccer, is still legendary and beloved.

This just came to my mind, also the IOC, having delt with “politics” for so long, wanted to get away from it as fast as possible and wanted nothing to do with an olympic bid that would be “dripping” with politcs.

Yeah, Chicago is horrible for the following

- fleecing motorists with traffic and parking tickets
- nickel and dime folks with various fees and taxes like the city sticker required for your vehicle
- all sorts of red tape required before starting a business and having to pay off private interest as well (i.e. the mob)

"Here’s a great ad for Romney in the making: Use obama’s words about Chicago being what makes America great and follow up with statistics of violence (including footage of the flash mobs ransacking stores)."

Sigh. Indeed a great ad. There are just so many. I've outlined several here myself. I just pray that they get made and displayed. If I were rich, I would form my own super PAC and hire the best there is to make these ads and show them non-stop in the swing states. My ads would be compelling in terms of production values, making people WANT to watch them; they would be practically hypnotic. People would walk away shaken to the core emotionally.

And those of my ads that used just images and video without voice-over would all use portions of Vagelis' opening music for "Blade Runner":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbWNZkoQHuE>

That music would work for your ad, too. Start with a vid clip of Obama making his ridiculous statement about the greatness of Chicago and then segue into news clips of Chicago violence and corruption and statistics going all the way back to Capone even, plus including Blago and preceding Illinois governors going to prison. (The historical images of Capone and Co. would be interspersed with the modern images.) (The shots regarding corrupt governors would be fun because that isn't Chicago per se, so the critics would of course start screaming the ad was unfair, naturally garnering a great deal of publicity about the specifics of the ad. How much fun to see debated the fact that corrupt Illinois governors weren't Chicago's fault. In fact, all of my ads would include one slight discrepancy like this calculated for this very purpose.)

Reminds me of the old story:

A dog food company had its annual meeting, brought EVERYONE in from the whole country. President got up to make a motivational speech

“We have the best researchers available. We have the most up to date factories. Our management is the best the is in the world. NOW, WHY AREN'T SELLING ANY DOGFOOD?”

A salesmen for the south stood up and said (in his best southern drawl), “The daaaaaawwwwwwgs don't like it.”

Let’s not forget Rahm, obamas henchman who’s idol seems to be Capone. When the idiots voted him in all I could think about is they had better not complain about ehat he does. They are going to deserve what they get, high taxes and plenty more corruption.

Illinois, the Kaleftfornia of the Midwest!

Drove through Chicago yesterday. I saw many billboards for porno dens and gas was $4.54 a gallon. A real paradise. My son saw it for the first time and said the whole place looked dirty. He was right.

The RNC needs to hire us. They won’t do anything like what we suggest but we both know it’ll work. It seems to me the RNC is waiting for Lee Atwater to rise from the ashes to save them.
