Islamist takeover complete: Morsi Fires Top Defense Brass

Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi has sacked the entire leadership of the country's defense establishment.

Among the officials and officers fired are Defense Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and Chief of Staff Sami Anan.

Morsi appointed Abdul-Fatah al-Sessi as Defense Minister and Lieutenant-General Sidki Sayed Ahmed as Army Chief of Staff. A judge named Mahmoud Mekki was appointed vice president. Morsi also ordered the retirement of the commanders of the navy, air defense and air force. The retired navy commander, Lieutenant-General Mohan Mameesh, was named as chairman of the Suez Canal.

Morsi also cancelled all constitutional changes that gave the military enlarged powers.

What civil war? Nobody in the majority of the populace is against the Muslim Brotherhood. They have already had their civil war by ousting Mubarak, with the help of western liberals.

I think that Morsi and Egypt better not get Israel riled. One misstep on their part and Israel could defeat them with a single missile .... a nuke on the Aswan Dam! It would be one of the shortest wars ever.

Said missile would not even necessarily have to be a nuke. Methinks though, that the misstep has already taken place, with Morsi's actions vis-a-vis the Egyptian military establishment. Morsi has removed the somewhat saner portions of Egypt's military, to replace them with fanatical types which would back hostilities against Israel. The die is already likely cast, and Aswan High Dam is "a dead man walking"...
