Publishers of children's series The Berenstain Bears are facing pressure to make a stand against homophobia in the latest episode of a controversy over the Chick-fil-A fast food chain, and its president's stance on gay marriage.
In the 50 years since they made their literary debut, The Berenstain Bears have taught generations of children valuable lessons about acceptance and the rejection of bigotry.
Now, publishers of the beloved children's series are facing pressure to make a stand against homophobia in the latest episode of a controversy over the Chick-fil-A fast food chain and its president's stance on gay marriage.
Gay rights groups want the bears to pull out of a marketing partnership with Chick-fil-A, which plans to hand out some of their titles as part of a forthcoming children's meal promotion.
Campaigners say that Chick-fil-A's conservative Christian president, Dan Cathy, has exhibited exactly the kind of social intolerance that Papa, Mama, Brother, Sister and Honey Bear educate young readers to avoid, with his public declaration that his 1,000-restauarant chain supported "the biblical definition of the family unit" and that same-sex marriage was "inviting God's judgment on our nation.'

Thanks for that. How vile and rude. Very revealing.
Why don’t you post that video as its own thread? More FReepers would see it. ;)
The Nazi campaign against the free expression of Christian faith and tenants is hardly enduring me to the cause of gay Nazi rights.
They should stand up to these anti-Christian bigots.
We must stand against this assault on traditional values and marriage, but also on the use of words. I have never met anyone who is afraid of Gays, therefore, there is no person who is homophobic.
I haven’t met anyone who “hates Gays” either. But there are plenty of straight haters.
Hear , hear.
I'm inclined to agree. I'm hoping they manage to keep this on the political front burner through October. It is (1) very noisy, (2) very unpopular, and (3) very obviously abusive behavior. They and their MSM allies want to make it a big campaign issue, that's just fine with me.
Hope Bernestein Bears sees the support versus the hate and does not bow to the latter.

I think they will, and I think it will work against them and serve to further our side.
Yes, I am hoping they have the sense and integrity to make the right choice.
I hate militant faggies. And I don’t want run-of-the-mill queers anywhere near me.
Their perverse sexual practices disgust me. Their in-your-face aggressiveness inspires only defiance & counterattack. Their assault on Chick Fil-A, however abortive in outcome, is straight out of Sodom & Gomorrah.
They hate straight people & they hate the teachings of the Bible that specifically condemn their awful behavior.
Questions? And no, I have neither homosexual friends nor homosexual relatives.
):^(
I have a Gay friend who does not condone the assault on Chick-Fil-A, nor on the Bible. He supports traditional marriage, and freedom of speech. He is Conservative.
During my time in the Army, I met Gays for the first time. They didn’t flaunt. Chris sewed on stripes and other things for uniforms for the Straight guys, but they turned on him just because they thought he was Gay. Funny, how this possibly Gay man wasn’t intimidated by Straights, but the Straight guys were intimidated by him.
I said there was no hate towards Gays in this whole CFA thing, but you proved me wrong. Not all Gays are the same. Some are just as patriotic and believing as you. You might have been around a Gay or Lesbian and not even known it. Perhaps if you knew some who are then you wouldn’t lump everyone as you did.
Your anger does you no good. Especially to a fellow patriot like myself. My former Army Lt. boyfriend is the same way.

Sergeant, I’m a retired warrant officer who started out in barracks just like you. Oldfashioned wooden squad bay barracks where all bodily functions & personal hygiene were performed with little to no privacy. Showering was tolerable knowing one wasn’t being possibly eyed.
Did you notice I expressed dislike for MILITANT queers? You may have gay friends who are nice people and not in-your-face, but they’re not the ones in the driver’s seat. You may even have Muslim friends who have never screamed “Allahu Akbar!!”, but they’re not in the driver’s seat, either.
If homosexuality is OK, then the Bible is a lie. Bottom line.
Anyway, see you at Chick Fil-A. Or maybe I won’t.
