Ryan’s a smart guy and is certainly capable of being President, but Romney is at the top of this ticket for a very important reason. All politics aside, everything I’ve read and heard about him “behind the scenes” tells me that he’s one of the most effective, competent executives ever to run for the White House. That may not be enough to win an election, but he’s there to be a leader in some very challenging times for this country.

Thanks Alberta’s_Child for your reply. And now I’m fairly squarely in the camp that we got to promote Romney, but I wonder if the “he’s an effective executive” point you make is the best argument to use around here anyway. No doubt he is a good exec, though lots of us have been shaking our heads about his apparently inept staff, but a bigger thing is that many were upset that Mitt used to say that “O is a nice guy, he’s just in over his head.” Well, O’s neither nice nor over his head. He’s a radical leftist, and he succeeded in getting his signature Obamacare through. And don’t do like Dukakis and try to make the election about “competence, not ideology” when the glaring thing is O’s extremism. And don’t try to make it “about the economy” either, when it is about O’s extremism. People don’t want a tecnocrat manager, that seems to be just what we’re stuck with. Krauthammer said that Mitt should “show some ideology.” Maybe with Ryan as vp a new leaf has been turned.

I guess you didn’t live in MA and weren’t in the GOP when he was governor of MA.
