There are already plenty of signs of pride across the Coast for the hometown gold medalist, including a series of digital billboards congratulating her.

The five billboards were placed by Lamar Advertising "as a commitment to the community," said Courtney Varhol, traffic coordinator for Lamar Advertising.

Gulfport was home for 3+ years in the 1980s. I don’t recall any world-class athletes at that time. Congrats Brittney and congrats Gulf Coast that the lady has made you proud!

I live about 1.5 mi out from GPT airport touchdown. Right on the center line. Will wave to her when she flies over.

She’s really made the whole Coast proud (we live right off the beach in Gulfport).

Today at the radio station where I work I saw a big, nice professionally printed sign our company had made saying “Congratulations, Brittney!” with one of our radio station logos on it.

It ought to be a great welcome home gathering at the airport!

Hey, you! So...you’re in FL now? Whereabouts?

I was turned off by that big, creepy baby in the opening ceremonies, and then the new ruling in gymnastics where there can be only 2 from each country in the all-around, instead of the top 24, that I haven’t watched much of the Olympics.

However, I made a point of watching Brittney! I was so proud of her! Not only is she a wonderful ambassador for this country, and Mississippi in particular, but she was warm, sweet, humble and beautiful.

I loved every minute of the coverage of her, and am very proud of her.

Follow up on the welcome home.

Brittney Reese returns to hero's welcome in Gulport

Flashing a winning smile and a golden medal, Olympic athlete Brittney Reese thanked the supporters
who gathered to welcome her home to Mississippi on Saturday.

"I'd like to present this to y'all and show y'all what you've done," she said, holding up the velvet-
encased gold medal she won Aug. 8 in London.

Between 800 and 1,000 supports gathered at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport to welcome
Reese back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
