CNN's Candy Crowley: Ryan Pick 'Looks a Little Bit Like Some Sort of Ticket Death Wish'
NewsBusters.org ^ | August 11, 2012 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 08/11/2012 9:45:22 AM PDT by Kaslin

As NewsBusters has been noting all Saturday morning, now that Paul Ryan has been chosen as Mitt Romney's running mate, the goal of the Obama-loving media is to rip him to shreds.

Doing her part Saturday was CNN's Candy Crowley who said that this "looks a little bit like some sort of ticket death wish" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CNN's Candy Crowley: Ryan Pick 'Looks a Little Bit Like Some Sort of Ticket Death Wish'

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN: We’ve already had this debate. All they have to do at Obama Reelect is open up the files because this debate has already happened. They just bring it back, it goes, it is, you know, what they talk about. But I think the other thing that’s worth pointing out is not every Republican has signed on to this kind of, I mean, they will publicly. But there is some trepidation…

GLORIA BORGER, CNN: They're afraid.

CROWLEY: ...that this might be, looks a little bit like some sort of ticket death wish. That, oh, my gosh, do we really want to talk about these thing? Is this where we want to go when the economy is so bad? We could have stayed on that.

A ticket death wish?

Is this how the folks at CNN think they're going to improve their continually declining ratings?

Granny’s too much trouble to move. They’ll just have her put to sleep and buried in the garden, as is the custom in Kenya.

I think Ryan will be okay if he backs off on Medicare revision. He actually looks a bit like the Kennedys — which might help with the Kennedybots.

One would think that the folks over at CNN would get tired of being wrong all the time, just for the sake of spouting this sort of Leftist claptrap in support of Obama’s socialist, big government collectivism.

IF liberal hag Crowley really believed this "death wish" crap, she wouldn't say it out loud like this.

She'd be privately chortling and say that it was a reasonable pick for the GOP. The Libs are scared to death of Ryan.

Obama Chooses Joe Biden as Running Mate; Tropical Storm Fay Still Hammering Florida

Aired August 23, 2008 - 07:00 ET

EXCERPT

NGUYEN: So we want to talk more now about the pick there with Joe Biden and joining us for that is senior political correspondent Candy Crowley who is live in Chicago. Candy, when it comes to Joe Biden, it seems like he fills a lot of voids there on the Obama ticket.

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: Absolutely, he does. I think if you look back at that interview and you superimpose Joe Biden over it, you have a match. Clearly, what they wanted was exactly what he — what Obama just articulated and in fact, Joe Biden fits those things. They’re not best buddies. They were not that close in the Senate, but I can tell you, when the Obama team was up on Capitol Hill, they heard an awful lot about Joe Biden.

There were many people behind this pick up on Capitol Hill when they were asked. He is well respected up there. They thought, in fact, that someone with the sort of credentials that Biden had would be an assuring quality on this ticket. So that certainly is one of the things that pushed the Obama team toward looking at Joe Biden.

Now, we saw the debate where he said, yes, he didn’t think that Obama was ready to be president. This happens all the time especially when you’re picking a former rival. I remember when Reagan picked George Bush, George Bush, the first Bush, Bush had criticized Ronald Reagan as having voodoo economics and that thing plagued him all the way through the campaign. People say, well you said that the economics you’re now defending were voodoo economics.

So, we will hear a lot about well, you said that Barack Obama wasn’t experienced, but I think you saw Biden begin to make that turn earlier when he said, well, we have someone with judgment and that is a classic theme from the Obama campaign. It’s not so much the experience and time in the Washington, but that Obama has judgment and we have seen Joe Biden already get on board that particular line.

NGUYEN: Does Biden need to come out today at 3:00 p.m. Eastern when he steps on stage with Obama and really speak firmly about what he has said in the past and lay that to rest, because as you mentioned he said Obama is not ready. He also said the presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.

CROWLEY: I think you will hear subtle things. I think, obviously, you will hear praise for Barack Obama. I don’t think directly that he will bring that up in the speech simply because it’s not the time for it. I think that will be more a question than it will be something of Joe Biden kind of on the defensive about it.

Again, he is going to come out and he’s going to say, this is the man with the judgment. This is the man who can bring about a whole new era in foreign policy. I have been, again, looking back at kind of the clues, what we know is that Barack Obama did make his final judgment on who he would like to be number two while he was in Hawaii and as we all know on the first day of that Hawaiian trip, Russia went into Georgia and this certainly sort of highlighted, put John McCain in the lead of all the papers, of all the broadcasts, because, obviously, John McCain is seen as so vastly experienced in foreign policy.

Meanwhile, Obama was on vacation, looked at first hesitant when he made his first statement, so it is interesting to me that that final decision was made in a period of time when the world was reminded that they are uncertain times.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0808/23/smn.03.html

EXCERPT

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: We talked so much about balance, Wolf, need to balance the ticket. I think we can write off geographical simply because Delaware isn’t a big state in play with three electoral votes and pretty solidly Democratic. But you have the ultimate Washington insider and this could be a problem certainly the Republicans will hit on how the candidate of change has gone to a man, a real insider, for more than three decades in the Senate.

He has vast foreign policy experience, which has been a huge weakness of Barack Obama’s. Certainly one that John McCain has taken out after. Biden, by the way, has more than a decade more experience than John McCain does. We are also getting someone who is not afraid to pull out the sledgehammer and deliver some blows and certainly that’s the traditional vice presidential role. It’s something that Joe Biden can do, and do with some flair. So that you almost don’t see how cutting the remarks can be because he does it with a smile.

So they are getting some real balance here in the ticket clearly when the question was, do you want to go with the theme and do change and take an outsider like Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, what they opted for was not someone with just foreign policy experience but someone who understands how Washington works.

He has deep ties in Washington. He also has deep ties with labor organizations and some of the real core groups within the Democratic party. Beyond that, he has very working class roots. He is the poorest member of the Senate. He relates very well to people on the campaign trail. He is a very one on one person, very good at that.

I followed him around Iowa for a while, inside those homes where the lesser known candidates are prone to go in Iowa and New Hampshire. They loved him because he was very, very good at answering their questions, at knowing such a broad range of subjects, particularly on foreign policy.

So they have gone for balance. There’s the age and the experience versus the youth and the hope of Barack Obama. I should add that Joe Biden fully understands that kind of precocious career, if you will. He was 29-years-old when he was first elected to the Senate. A very young man and really has had a successful career that has as well been marred by personal tragedy.

As you know, he lost a wife and a toddler daughter in a pre- Christmas crash right after, in fact, he was elected to the Senate before he was sworn in. His two children, two boys, were severely injured in that accident. Joe Biden was sworn in at the bedside of one of his sons after that accident. So he has a personal story as well. Triumph over tragedy, that kind of thing. So there is a story to sell here to the American public about a man who has seen quite a lot in his 65 years and brings certainly some depth to this ticket.

Actually Ms Crowley does have a job at Fox... and she's quite foxy!
