I would have rather seen West too but did not ever see Romney doing that for a few reasons. Ryan is an excellent compromise though IMHO.

Allen West I want for President!
Rubio would have been relentlessly belittled as a token pick for the Hispanic vote and his message would have been drowned out I think.
Ryan will be a lot trickier for the MSM and Obama, because it’s the economy the economy the economy, and they can’t engage him on any level without it bringing up the economy, which they’d like everyone to forget about. Now they may try to scare people with the granny off the cliff- but the thing is, Americans are already scared re: the economy for their futures and their children’s futures. So I think this is great.
What’s rather interesting is- I am going to go out on a limb and say Ryan is not, in the long term, interested in being President. So does that open a door for West for president in 8 years assuming Romney/economy does better and has 2 terms? Because likely in 4 years and definitely in 8, the islamist problem is going to be really huge.
The world is going to need the USA to lift them up first economically and then against islam.

I never wanted Rubio, but not for the reasons people around here say (he's "soft on immigration," etc.)

I did not want to take a conservative (however you define one) OUT of the senate. The Ryan pick is brilliant in so many ways (if we win) in that we will have ADDED a 51st GOP vote and a conservative vote to the senate in case of ties.

Think of it this way. Ryan can pick one of these guys when he runs for President in 2020. After two successful terms as VP, of course.

Sorry, excitement over this choice has unleashed my imagination.

Thank you Governor Romney, I only have to plug one nostril when I vote this year.
