101st Airborne in Arkansas
Anybody who believes the troops will side with the people needs a refresher in U.S. history, and its constitution.
The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 states in part:
SEC. 15. From and after the passage of this act it shall not be lawful to employ any part of the Army of the United States, as a posse comitatus, or otherwise, for the purpose of executing the laws, except in such cases and under such circumstances as such employment of
said force may be expressly authorized by the Constitution or by act of Congress;
If Congress authorizes it, they can do it. They have done it. Without congressional authorization. Deploy against American citizens on U.S soil? Of course they can. Already been done:
Whiskey Rebellion
Harpers Ferry
Wounded Knee
Bonus Marchers
Coal Labor Strike of 1941
Little Rock Nine
Kent State
Martin Luther King Riots
Wounded Knee II
Ruby Ridge
Waco

Ruby Ridge did not involve the US Army, but the FBI and the Marshals Service.
The Wikipedia article is rather comprehensive:

Large cash payments were eventually awarded to the surviving members of the Weaver family, but the government agents who murdered Randy Weaver’s wife Vicki and his son Sammy were never punished. The whole affair was a nightmare from beginning to end.

Good review of the history bump.
On the other hand, let’s not forget the Battle of Athens, TN. . .

Absolutely correct.
It is one of many reasons why the citizens of our nation have a 2nd amendment.
Now to order a howitzer and a chain gun?/s

One other rather prominent one, regardless of how one feels about unions--- this really happened: August 25 to Sept. 2nd, 1921 The Battle of Blair Mountain. Warren G. Harding sent Federal troops to stop the war between a vicious sheriff's fiefdom in Mingo County,WV and his private army and the miners. Rednecks-- the term for miners who wore red bandanas for recognition.
A very long way from the Covenanters of 1640s Scotland who rejected rule by Presbyterian bishops, who signed their manifestos in blood and wore red cloth around their necks to identify to each other. But in the same spirit and sign for independence.
