Favor is fickle, and hope and change was easier to promise than deliver on.
A new Gallup poll shows that nearly 10 percent of voters who supported Barack Obama during his 2008 run have decamped and will be supporting Republican challenger Mitt Romney in this next election. At nine percent, the rate of Obama 08 defectors is nearly double the five percent of former McCain 08 supporters who now say theyll cast a vote for Obama.
Partly loyalty is higher in the Republican camp too, with 92 percent of former McCain supporters saying theyre sticking with the red ticket, while only 86 percent of Obamas 2008 base say theyre staying true.
The poll surveyed more than 2,000 registered voters who punched a ballot in 2008.
Now for some number play: if we make the broad assumption that the poll data is representative of the general population and do some extrapolation, tallying nine percent of 69,456,897 (Obamas 2008 vote count) and subtracting five percent of John McCains 59,934,814 votes, we end up with a potential 3.25 million more votes for Romney than McCain had four years ago. Its nothing concrete, but its becoming clear that election 2012 will be a far different race than 2008 was.
blah blah blah
Could very well be that a lot of black people are not racists and will vote for Romney this time..
They may say their for Zero but will vote privately for Romney..
I suspect many are not STUPID..
Tend to the beam in your own eye -- of promoting the real author of ObamaCare, the full-on supporter of the homosexual agenda everywhere from the military to adoption agencies, the enabler of on-demand tax-funded abortion, the appointer of liberal activist judges, and the guy who WANTS a "worldwide solution, not an American one," to the so-called "problem" of global warming -- YOU, Doug from Upland, you tend to the beam in your own eye of PROMOTING that stone-cold liberal Mitt Romney before you start attending to the speck in Diogenesis' eye of risking an Obama re-election in order to avoid surrendering the Republican party to full-blown leftism. At least Diogenesis doesn't have to rely on wholesale falsehoods, which you DO, Doug, when refer to Dio as being on "Team Obama."
I'm ashamed of you.
I used to respect you, Doug. You've turned into a real vegetarian-style ditz: emotional and deceitful. You really ought to move up to San Luis Obispo as you wished to do a few years ago -- you'd fit right in with all the former-Obama-supporting liberals up there, plenty of whom will no doubt be voting for Romney right along with you and the folks cited in this poll.
You can vote for a liberal and pretend you're voting "against" Obama. I'm voting for a plurality; I'm voting third party to do that and gambling that whichever liberal Democrat wins, Obama or Romney, will, elected on a plurality, be as vulnerable to conservatives in Congress as the last liberal Democrat elected by a plurality, and that president was was bulldozed by the Republican Revolution and then impeached.
I'm voting to risk a showdown, and you're voting to surrender to liberalism -- which is not nearly so disgusting as the fact that you have the gall to claim Diogenesis is one supporting liberalism, when you're planning to VOTE FOR ONE OF ITS MOST PROVEN AGENTS.
Eat a steak, Doug. Eat a Chick Fil A Deluxe Sandwich. Maybe it will help you start perceiving reality a little better.
I personally know two women-—one in her 50s, one in her 20 s-—who voted for Zero but now love Romney.
You need to go back to Bush for your baseline to get a Republican win.
Now, recompute the whole thing assuming about 4.0 million religious social conservatives simply don't show up to vote for President. That's happened before BTW.
That gives Obama a 6.3 million vote margin.
Romney's odds of winning are far from insurmountable ~ Obama has an excellent chance because the imponderable imponderables ~ to wit ~ people not showing up to vote at all ~ are very much against Romney.
Only a Conservative willing to deal with any and all issues can give Social Conservatives an incentive to show up to vote in this election.
I have been doing my own poll on this topic for months.I have yet to find a person who knows someone who voted against Obama last time and now is going to vote for Obama. The 5% figure seems out of whack.
R-Money looks like the husband most women wish they had married.
Where do you think conservative Republicans would stand in Congress in opposing liberal moves by a very liberal top Republican and top political figure backed by such a sound popular mandate? Which side to you think moderate Republicans are going to gravitate toward -- conservatives, or the side of "big winning" moderate Romney?
We had all damned well better pray for a plurality if Romney wins. Providence and the Almighty have presented us with a rare blessing -- a sitting Democrat president so loathed that there's little chance he could get 50% of the vote, in a year when a functioning liberal Democrat is running as his Republican opponent.
Of all years to risk a third party gamble to force a victory-weakening plurality, this is the one.
The last time a liberal Democrat president was elected on a plurality, he was forced to the right by a Republican Revolution, and then impeached. Pluralities favor conservatives. In 2012, a plurality win by either of these liberal Democrat assclowns, Obama or Romney, represents the ONLY chance conservatives have of opposing the liberal agenda guaranteed to originate by either one in the White House.
This news about all those Obama supporters planning to vote for Romney ... wake up and smell the coffee. Pray for a plurality and VOTE for a plurality, because a Romney landslide would be the kiss of death for conservatism in the Republican party.
yes- wake up and smell the coffee....i have no delusions that Romney is a great candidate but HE’S NOT OBAMA!! and that’s enough for me...it also seems to be enough for the fools who voted for hims the first time around...
>> What kind of idiots did McCain attract that they now support Obama?
That’s a loaded question.
35% of McCain’s voters from 2008 probably don’t want Romney, but most will likely vote for him any dammed way......
Nope, Dio didn't prompt my response. What prompted my response was your stupid, smarmy, mean, false "Team Obama" graphic.
If Dio is that clinically sick, why in hell do you torment him further with stupid false accusations? Take it like a man, why don't you, and remember that discretion is the better part of valor, instead of indulging in "Team Obama" crap.
I think you are voting for Romney because you accuse one of his critics as being on Team Obama!
Go eat a Chic Fil A chicken sandwich, for crying out loud. You don't need the desserts -- you need the damned meat. It's brain food.
He stands no chance in Florida . ZERO chance. None. Nada. Never going to happen. People here hate him. Florida goes to Romney by a landslide.
Doug, I have been following you since the days of George Putnam. I can say I am sorry to have read that post.
Why was his post removed? Because he made sense amongst all this pro-obama crowd?
I ask that question in all seriousness. How far is too far for you?
ABO is short sighted. You are absolutely guaranteed a bad outcome when you vote for a liberal Democrat, and any honest review of Romney's record reveals that "liberal Democrat" is exactly what he is, though he's registered as a Republican.
Desperation often leads to choices regretted later. Republicans' and conservatives' desperation for "HE'S NOT OBAMA!!" is paving the way to a very bad choice. The better risk is to stand and fight the real enemy, which isn't Obama, but liberalism.
