The suspect in a shooting that left six people dead at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee on Sunday has been identified as Wade Michael Page, who served in the U.S. Army for about six years.
According to sources in the U.S. Army, Page enlisted in April 1992 and given a less-than-honorable discharge in October 1998. He served at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the psychological operations unit in 1994, and was last stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, attached to the psychological operations unit. The details of his discharge were not immediately clear.
Wade was killed outside the temple in a shootout with police officers after the rampage that left terrified congregants hiding in closets and others texting friends outside for help.
Officials had previously described the suspect as a heavy-set, 40-year-old Caucasian with numerous tattoos.
Sources tell CBS News some unspecified evidence suggests race or ethnicity may have played a role in the violence, but no links to extremist groups have been confirmed.
Local police called the attack an act of domestic terrorism, but other sources tell CBS News correspondent Bob Orr it may be more accurate to refer to "an investigation into a possible hate crime."
Neither the local nor the federal sources provided further details or suggested a possible motive, including whether the suspect specifically targeted the Sikh temple.

We may not know very much about the shooter or his motives yet ... but we do know enough to say that this is definitely a hate crime ... caused by a crazed Tea Party backed gun nut!
Oh good. This morning Fox News said he was still active duty. I see he was discharged with a less than Honorable. Fox News misreported. I was sad that it could have been an active duty. I am very glad he wasn’t. With the Less than Honorable Discharge, this is going to end up better than we think. Chances of him being a Republican or Tea Party are slim to none now.
Perhaps he was just Sikh of it all.
US news media: sometimes ya gotta wait till all the facts are in, & sometimes ya just gotta jump in with both feet.
My diagnosis: C-R-A-Z-Y.
Sikh Temple shooter identified
FReep mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin intterest ping list.
Unnamed sources with unspecified evidence about an uncertain role in the violence.
This is what passes for "news" at ABCNNBCBS these days.
How about "He was a frickin' lunatic." Who care what his motivation was?
Unless he was right-wing, Tea party, Climate-change-denying, Romney-voting, or something else the MSM can make some hay over.....
Christallnacht.. Believe in it
Tom Metzger (white supremacist) is/was the leader of a group called "White Aryan Resistance" (WAR).
Years ago some "skinheads" murdered a black man. A civil trial brought against Metzger by the SPLC obtained a multi-million dollar decision against Metzger. IIRC the skinheads were not members of Metzger's group, never attended meetings, but were said to be influenced by the group's public statements and telephone-based messages.
IMO the Obama/Holder Dept. of Just Us, the MSM, et al will claim that the murderer was influenced by the Tea Party movement but will not say that he was a member; nevertheless the Tea Party will be blamed and legal action will follow. Why not? The Obama/Holder Dept. of Just Us has billions of dollars of taxpayers' money to use to destroy innocent citizens.
BTW these people need to upgrade their religion to have fire arms.
psy ops....hmmmmm.
Left wingers are wetting themselves with glee that not only is the shooter a white Army vet, but that he may have been involved with skinhead supremacist groups.
When did he convert to Islam? Muslim hate Sikhs. (but then, they hate EVERYONE!)
“Sources tell CBS News some unspecified evidence suggests...”
You know...My hip waders are still drying out from the last deluge of bullsh!t in Colorado...
Good to know the government is still using the same BS template...
CBS is so delighted, they are already on a first-name basis with the shooter.
Love gone wrong.
What ever happened to that guy that shot some 13 soldiers at Fort Hood?
The neighbor says, as she understood it, the suspect had lived in the apartment with his girlfriend until their recent break-up. The suspect had then moved into another apartment nearby two weeks ago. She says he had returned to the old apartment and was banging on the door of his old apartment, demanding to be let in. The neighbor also said she believed the suspect had a 9-11 tattoo.
