Woman laughs, accidentally swallows knife
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 3, 2012 | Rosie Mestel

"Unexpected Swallowing of a Knife" -- that's a grabbier title than most ones you see in medical journals.

The short item, a clinical image in this week's New England Journal of Medicine, explains that a 30-year-old woman with a history of bulimia had been bragging to friends that she no longer had a gag reflex. She put the knife into her mouth and then laughed -- at which point she swallowed the knife.

Sitting in an empty theater allows one to boo and hiss at the bad guys and cheer on the good guys without fear of being pointed out. :o])

That’s one reason I like to watch movies at home. I just put Emberlie down for prayers from the Missionary Oblates in San Antonio. (You, too.) Fine folks, they do a lot for the poor, as well as praying.

Elen and I have begun a new English curriculum in which, at the end, we will each have written a novel.

Sales of our new novels started off slowly......and then, of course, they began to taper off......

We’ll let you read them for free, sjb. We have a whole semester of lessons on character development, plotting, and so on, before we actually begin producing text.

All that’s left now is to pray for Emberlie and her family. I recall when her mother was a toddler. Lotta years with that family.

BonGon, redhead and I have been friends since we were five and six, growing up like three sisters. We were always together.

The last time I went to the class reunion, (five years ago) I learned that my niece’s paternal grandfather had died, so my dressy clothing was black, dual purpose.

BonGon and I began discussing plans while I was there, and she mentioned her BIL had passed away, and she was supposed to go to the funeral. I was going to go to one as well. It seems my niece’s grandfather was BonGon’s BIL. Small world. So I guess we’re sisters, after all!

As soon as the byos finish lunch, we’ll be off on an expotition: take dinner to a family with a sick child, go to the Scout Shop to pick up Tom’s official lifeguard certification, go to “Healthy Home Market” because Tom wants sarsaparilla, and I can get turmeric and maybe some nice coffee beans. Would it look different under a microscope from standard skin cells?

Oh, and the drugstore, for corn-pads. I have a corn on the bottom of my right foot. It would be interesting to know the biology of corns: how does skin turn into something like a good-sized salt crystal?

The boys are making a mess with their noodles, I’m afraid.

I could write a novel if my attention span didn’t dwindle to nothing in the first five minutes....

I'm sorry about your corn, but I actually LOLd. When I got my first job assembling electronic components for the space program, we worked on machines that had a heat block that was in excess of 500 C.

It was needed to "glue" the little gold circuitry disk to the "header" before sending it on to another section. I developed a corn on my right index fingertip.

The doctor asked if I had been walking on my hands long.

Howdy, no smoke yesterday from the fires, yet a bit today. Still nothing to worry about.

I’m so glad to hear that! I do recall growing up with summers filled with smoke from local fires. Not fun.

Hang tough, CO!
