"Unexpected Swallowing of a Knife" -- that's a grabbier title than most ones you see in medical journals.
The short item, a clinical image in this week's New England Journal of Medicine, explains that a 30-year-old woman with a history of bulimia had been bragging to friends that she no longer had a gag reflex. She put the knife into her mouth and then laughed -- at which point she swallowed the knife.

Mom suggested that with his size and strength, his science interest, and his affectionate nature, he’d be a natural as a pediatric nurse. I’ll nudge him towards taking the paramedic training in the spring. Maybe Central Piedmont teaches it. Our Scouts do a lot with the Mint Hill Fire Department, so I’m sure they’d take Tom as an intern when he’s old enough.

Perhaps you could also suggest that he look into PA programs. The PA’s get compensation and respect. Let’s be realistic.

Good idea. Right now, I’m just trying to get him to concentrate on studying for the PSAT to he can qualify for all the financial aid he could ever want.

Kitties could be imperiled.
Dustbunnies
The sound that all dustbunnies make,
Depends on the form the bunnies take.
Sawdust bunnies grind and scrape,
While cottons make a quiet escape.
Woolens have a sheepish stare,
And murmurs that disturb the air.
Dustbunnies to evoke your dread,
Are those that lurk beneath your bed.
Insurgent bunnies, trained just so,
On tiptoe and in silence go,
But growing in such numbers that,
A stealth attack could kill a cat!
Poor Kitty! In her masters room,
Hairballed down to dusty doom.
If you want to survive, then ya gotta get mean!
Bring yer vacuum out! Keep yer filters clean!

Coming from an area where forest fires start from spontaneous combustion, as well as lightning strikes and careless smokers/campers, and then seeing all the 17 year-olds volunteering to fight them, I tend to think CO is correct in her assessment of the fires. Unless they are at your back door, one does not panic.

I know! Good job with the camera, whoever that was!
Jake has been out since sometime last night. I hope he’ll turn up soon. It rained for a bit, about an hour ago, and it looks like there will be more.

we ibky panic when forest service calls a meeting in town. that usually means fire near. Now we get a email update and it is helpfull. But when they all show up with fire fighting crews and all the big wigs show up.....panic time.
Not now though.

Jake probably has no clue that he is harmless. Still, he has a tendency to think he is the Egyptian Cat God. Shannon is no doubt disgusted with Jake’s behavior. Typical cat...

Shannon is enjoying having the house and the food bowl to herself. She liked Jake reasonably well until he got bigger than she is, but after that, he turned into a real pain.

I went out and found Jake, during a break in the rain. He was hanging out in a drainpipe across the road toward the playground. He’s trying to get someone to let him out again, now that he’s eaten and dried a little. Dumbazz kitteh.

I get irritated when people come down on our police officers, saying that they don’t care about or respect others. Well, here is a story that clearly shows not all cops are in that category.
This story involves the police department in the small country town of Point Pleasant, WV, who reported finding a man’s body last Saturday in the early evening in the Ohio River near the Route 35 bridge. The dead man’s name would not be released until his family had been notified.
The victim apparently drowned due to excessive beer consumption while visiting “someone” in Point Pleasant. He was wearing black fishnet stockings, 4 inch spiked heels, a red garter belt, a pink G-string, purple lipstick, dazzle dust on his eyelids, 1/2 inch false eyelashes and an Obama T-shirt.
The police removed the Obama T-shirt to spare his family any unnecessary embarrassment.
