"Back in 1994, during a political debate in Massachusetts, Romney said this: "I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation." "

I have serious doubts as to whether this quote is accurate. First off, it does not make sense. The statement seems to directly contradict itself. The sentences don't even go together so I suspect some biased parsing going on here. If the quote is accurate it may be a case where the statements HAVE actually been taken out of context.

Bottom line: I need to hear a definite position from Romney on this before making any judgement. Just the fact that this statement was supposedly made almost a decade ago makes me think that the source for it's reemergence is biased or possibly worse.

Bingo!

Only took 32 posts for someone, namely you to question what was allegedly said. The LDS Church is the largest sponsor of scout troops in the world. I reserve judgement on Mr Romney, but the Church is in agreement with the position of the BSA regarding leadership requirements.

I doubt therefor, short of reliable proof, that Mr Romney is going to stand in opposition to his Church, which is what many of the Romney lovers (tongue in cheek) have used as a reason to never, never, never, never, never, never, ever, cast a vote for him.

Do some research. Romney, before he even was elected governor of Massachusetts, as CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympics worked to exclude the Boy Scouts from those games.

That quote would be from the debate in 1994 when he was running against Teddy for US Senate...

Running to the left of Teddy trying to prove he was more liberal than Teddy on gay rights and abortion..

You can find it on YouTube...

Congratulations. You have just described the essence of Mitt Romney. Of course it contradicts itself.

"Bottom line: I need to hear a definite position from Romney on this before making any judgement."

Good luck. Don't hold your breath.

Yours is a sensible posting on a forum that has an increasing amount of nonsense.
