TOKYO (AP) -- A grandson of ex-U.S. President Harry Truman, who ordered the atomic bombings of Japan during World War II, is in Hiroshima to attend a memorial service for the victims.

Clifton Truman Daniel visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on Saturday and laid a wreath for the 140,000 people killed by the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing authorized by his grandfather.

Little Boy and Fat Man saved the lives of TENS OF MILLIONS of Japanese.

Here’s a description of what an invasion of Japan would likely have entailed:

Liberals will never learn. The USA fought the war the way wars should be fought, TO WIN.

Once liberals could control the media and most of the political thinking we have played war by only fighting up to a certain line, then harping everyday how our boys are being slaughtered, then just like the French cheese eating surrender monkeys we give up without a clear victory.

Germany and Japan both defeated soundly by the USA and its allies have become allies of the West as opposed to those more recent wars where no clear victory was achieved.

N. Korea sure comes to mind.

Just like cancer, you cannot leave too many cells laying around to come back and fight you.

Harry said he didn’t waste much time making the decision, and hell, we warned ‘em.

Thank you HST for your decision. You helped save the lives of thousands upon thousands of young Americans lives. You also showed the world what consequences a country might endure as a result of an attack on the USA or any of its bases. Truman’s & Reagan’s don’t come around too often.

I have been there many years ago.It is a very sobering place to behold and will stay in my memory forever. Regardless of the loss of life and destruction we inflicted, “when in WAR you are in it to WIN it” no exceptions. We brought them to their knees and it is too bad that we have lost that resolve to date. In my opinion...you mess with us once..it's my fault.Mess with me again,I'll send you back to the stone ages to let you start all over again.

As the nephew of a Marine killed on Guam, a place he would never have viited but for the war the Japanese started, I’ll skip Hiroshima. I will, however, commemorate the day with a pint of fried rice.

I was seven or eighth in line on Leyte for picking up our battle gear for the invasion of Japan. A young Lt. (just a couple of years older than I) came out and told us the war was over and to go back to our tents. There was a lot of celebrating but I was still angry over the soldiers that had been killed on Okinawa including my only and older brother. I was coming up to my 19th birthday like a lot of others and we had been drilled with the thought that the invasion would not go easy.

I read the whole thing.Pretty sobering. The over 12,000 Japanese aircraft would have overwhelmed our air defenses and caused unbelievable destruction on our fleet.

Don’t forget - absent Little Boy and Fat Man, the 20th Air Force would have spent the months of August, September and October 1945 doing their best to burn the entire country of Japan to the ground, one village at a time.

Little Boy and Fat Man saved the lives of tens of millions of Japanese people.

After speaking with people who were in Japan within days of the surrender, I can tell you that report is sugar-coated on comparison to observed reality!

Virtually EVERY able bodied Japanese citizen was to be impressed as a soldier, down to grade-school children armed with bamboo spears.
Human wave attacks by thousands of ten year olds would have been a normal day!

Even those who were crippled were to carry out suicide attacks.

The real magnitude of the Japanese defense cannot be fully grasped by anyone who did not see the preparations for themselves.

He’s an irrelevant liberal twit of no importance whatsoever trying to cash in on an accident of family name.

Your brother's sacrifice, and that of so many brave Americans, saved the world from tyranny.
Those of us who have lived in freedom since then, have not, nor will not, ever forget our heros.
Thank you for your service ... God Bless you.

That is so true. When you look at the battles of Pelieu,Siapan,Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. The invasion of Japan would have been the previous 4 battles combined times 10.

The real magnitude of the Japanese defense cannot be fully grasped by anyone who did not see the preparations for themselves.

Considering what the military planners saw what happened at the end of the Siapan campaign(All the suicides)probably feared the worst in the backs of their minds.

The loss of your friends and your brother must have been very hard to live with, but fortunately you did have the opportunity to live. Thank you so much for your service.

The guestimate of at least 150,000 to 200,000 American lives, if they made a conventional invasion Japan, was why they made the decision to drop the bomb.
