Six Vatican Ambassadors Start Catholics for Romney Outreach

Former U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican
Dr. Mary Ann Glendon

Six former Vatican ambassadors have banded together to lead a new outreach for Mitt Romney presidential campaign to encourage Catholic voters to support him over pro-abortion President Barack Obama in November. The issue of abortion is one of the reasons for their decision to endorse Romney, as they explain in a new letter announcing the effort.

Catholics for Romney National Co-Chairs and Former U.S. Ambassadors to the Holy See include Frank Shakespeare, Tom Melady, Ray Flynn, Jim Nicholson, Francis Rooney, and Mary Ann Glendon. Together, they wrote the following letter supporting the former governor:

Fellow Catholics,

We are all called to advance the moral teachings of Christianity in the life of our country. Where the stakes are highest – in the defense of life, liberty, and human dignity – we have a duty to act that is greater and more urgent than allegiance to any political party.

In the election of 2012, this conviction has united all of us – each a former ambassador of the United States to the Holy See – in support of Governor Mitt Romney’s candidacy for president. Whatever issues might dominate the presidential campaign from now until November, our concerns lie with fundamental rights, beginning with religious liberty.

While the current administration has brought our first freedom under direct assault by imposing government mandates that completely disregard religious conscience, Governor Romney believes that freedom to live one’s faith is essential to liberty and human fulfillment. And he has pledged himself to removing those federal mandates immediately.

While the current administration has now put its weight on the side of those who propose to redefine the meaning of marriage itself, Governor Romney has stood firm in defending this sacred institution. In the White House, just as he did in the Massachusetts State House, he will defend the institution of marriage before the Congress, the courts, and the country.

Where the current administration has shown its sympathy for the pro-abortion lobby, Mitt Romney will be a faithful defender of life in all its seasons. And he understands the special duty of people of faith to serve in this cause. As Governor Romney recently said, “From the beginning, this nation trusted in God, not man. Religious liberty is the first freedom in our Constitution. And whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action.”

These are the words of a man we believe can be a great force for good in this nation. We are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, but on this question we are united in faith and in action. We urge our fellow Catholics, and indeed all people of good will, to join with us in this full-hearted effort to elect Governor Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States.

National Co-Chairs, Catholics for Romney

Frank Shakespeare (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 1986-1989)

Tom Melady (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 1989-1993)

Ray Flynn (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 1993-1997)

Jim Nicholson (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 2001-2005)

Francis Rooney (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 2005-2008)

Mary Ann Glendon (U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See 2008-2009)

Thanks for the response.

The GERMANS were the enemy, and our soldiers fought them and won the war. Our soldiers did not stop to consider that maybe the German enemy might not “allow” them to win. They had the fire in their bellies to fight and win, and they WON.

First of all, I'm not trying to put anyone down, and I'm not inferring that you said I was at all.  What I was trying to say here, is that there is a faction of the Republican party who wants to defeat Conservatives every bit as much as the Democrats do.  Please do not think you have an ally in them.  Mitt Romney is not your ally.  The cause is going nowhere with that guy at the helm.

Your statement that the GOP will not “allow” We the People to support and elect a true conservative in the 2016 elections suggests that you will not fight to select and vote for that conservative candidate in 2016. We do not have to ask the GOP for permission to elect a Conservative. We fight for the right to select and elect instead. Big difference. Enough talk, we need action and we need to join forces in mega numbers if we are to win at the polls.

Okay, I appreciate what you are tying to say.  I'm just trying to explain to you that in open primaries, even the most well meaning Conservatives that are all fired up, will not be able to turn Democrats into Conservative voters.  Republicans are not all Conservatives.  You have Conservatives, Liberal Republicans, and Democrats voting to choose our nominee.  Under these rules, it's almost statistically impossible to prevail.  That is why we get McCains and Romneys.  And it is outrageious that the Republican National Committee won't lift a finger to change this.

In closing, help the cause, and you know full well what the cause is, if you're been reading any of the articles on oboma and what he is currently/previously doing to this country, transgression by transgression.

I can only help the cause, if I vote for someone who will help the cause.  There are three courses each president must choose from.  1They will add more Lefitst legislation and remove Conservative legislation.  2They will remain netural and allow things to remain as they are.  3They will add more Conservative legislation and strike down Leftist legislation.

Ronald Reagan was the only president in our lifetime that tried to go the third way (not to be confused with a populist movement by the same name in the 90s).

Romney will not strike down Leftist legislation, and he will implement more Leftist legislation.  That means, voting for him is pointless.  If he does strike down Obamacare, it will only be to implement the Republicans own plan for nationalizing it.  Can't you folks grasp that?  He's a statist.  What more can I say?

And if you do understand the CAUSE and the STRATEGY of why we must all come together and vote for the official candidate running against obozo who has the electoral votes, we welcome you aboard, we patriots needs a mega turnout at the polls.

I appreciate your civil tone, and I know you mean well.  None the less, Romney, you, and I do not share the same goals.  If you are going to vote for a Leftist, you're not headed in the same direction I am.  Romney is a Leftist, a statist, and most certainly not a Conservative.

And if you chose to go another way, you won't be the first person who went left in elections and wars of years past, while the men and women of this country, who fully understood the dangers they were facing, went right, and won the elections and the wars.

For all you know, I am a ex service member who served in Vietnam, one of the Gulf wars, or some other lesser campaign.  You really shouldn't use the military angle on this.  I am not an ex member of the military, but it would offend me considerably if I saw you use such terms when conversing with one of our ex members of the military just because they disagreed with you.  As it is, I will go ahead and accept your language that equates me with going to the Left if I won't vote for Romney.  I have explained why, which totally destroys that argument, but I am comfortable with people adopting their own views about this, from their reading of this post.

PS:

Get the hell out of California...  it belongs to the left. You're wasting your time and efforts. Save yourself, at least,...

I was born in California.  At three years of age my parents sent me to live in Missouri with my grandparents.  I never gave up on where I belonged.  Fifteen years later, an opportunity came up, and I returned to California.  I'm not leaving.

Missouri will always have a VERY strong place in my heart, but I am home.

While I have lived in California, I have seen many Conservative middle class people pick up sticks and leave.  And when they did, they ensured that California will be lost until another supply of loyalists returns to the state, or new ones are developed here.  And with the RNC and the state party leadership almost invisible in the state, there is no hope for California in the short term.

In 2000, California was approximately the 5th world power on the planet.  It had many military bases.  It had the 5th largest economy behind the U. S. Japan, and a few others.  Today it is around 9th.

Milestones along the way have seen Californians vote for Ronald Reagan twice
They voted to put a limit on property taxes
They voted to remove Chief Justice Rose Bird and two other Leftist judges from the California Supreme Court
They voted for Prop 187 which denied goods and services to Illegal aliens
Free Republic was started by Jim Robinson and his sons in 1997
The people of California voted out Leftist Gray Davis in 2003, sadly replacing him with a leftist failure Arnold Schwarzenegger
The people of California voted against Homosexual marriage last year

The fact of the matter is, California is on the cusp of doing good things.  When we the people select a guy like Pete Simon to run against Gray Davis, the Democrats pull out all the stops.  Big names fly out to our state on numerous occasions.  The candidate gets to spend tens of millions of dollars.  He flys around on a Leer jet.  Our party extended absolutely no help whatsoever to Simon.  His whole budget was about $2 million.  He traveled around the state in a bus.  His rallies were small, because he didn't get the big names or the budget to rent the big venue.  You don't do that, and the media ignores you.  Flashy Gray Davis/and The Pretender Pete Simon.  California means nothing at all to the Republican party.  Neither do you, as long as you vote for their slugs.

Despite this, Simon lost by a margin that was so close, you know darn well that he would have won if only our party had helped.  It's really quite disheartening.  You see, by abandoning the state the way the Republican party has, we conceed 54 electoral votes to the Democrats every general election.  And we allow a state with this much potential to rot.

We allow illegal immigrants to swarm the state.  We allow them to tap goods and servies.  We allow their children to almost exclusively inhabit $500 million dollar schools in Los Angeles.  We force our middle class to send their kids to private schools, and pay taxes to support the illegals and the teachers who don't really care who they teach, just so long as that lifetime job remains there.

I'm not leaving.

...if you won't fight and help us to save the rest of the country. If not, please step out of the way..We the People have work to do.

Would that be the same "We the people" who are allowing our party to game not only us, but the rest of the nation you claim to cherish?

Is surrendering my state to Mexico or the pipe dream of those who hate the U. S. and want Aztan to be recognized instead of California, your way of tapping the core of my shame center?

Well, you missed.  Don't feel bad.  You've done nothing the party hasn't already done for going on twenty years now.

I will not be casting my vote for Romney.  I wanted to vote for our candidate.  I never want to vote for another part-time one.  I consider it a full time position.

We must have a full time Conservative, or but for the grace of God, you're state will look just like mine in time.  Then you can decide if you want to surrender it or not.  Evidently, you will. I will be toes up before I buy into that bull s--t..

Thanks, I appreciate your position, also.

We must keep the pressure on!

You have a lot info with sources posted to you. You have the facts that the court gave the legislature the directive to pass a law to moot their ruling, that Romney tried to stay the ruling, worked to get the Leg to act, and that they still did not act. Those are the facts.

Be specific: What more do you want?

Deus non alligatur sacramentis sed nos alligamur.

I'm not catching the verb (my Latin is so poor.) Is ghat "God is not obnligated by the sacraments, but we are obligated"? - Thanks. It's something I might want to pass on to my RCIA class.

I was very specific - yet you give a pump piece ABOUT Romney created by this own staff. Being hell bent on believing lies from KNOWN liar shows how easily some can be deceived from the KNOWN LIAR and flip flopper. Being unteachable, I’ll leave you to deception - it seems to be your chosen way of life.

What? From whom? Specifically.

I think “bound” is the closest to the meaning.

As in..

“The Sacraments are also normatively required: for example, if one is in the middle of a desert and no water is available to conduct the rite of Baptism in the proper way, as Christ desires we be baptised, one is still “baptised” by desire if he would be baptized in the proper way if the means were available to him. This does not make the rites less important; it only demonstrates the power of Christ’s mercy. One who has no priest available may make a spiritual Communion and receive the fruits of the Eucharist. A perfect act of contrition can give one the fruits of Confession even though no priest is available. And so on. The point:

God is not bound by the Sacraments; we are bound by the Sacraments! “

Catholicism/sacraments have NOTHING to do w/God. Keep your man made requirements/teachings/doctrines where they belong.

Just another confirmation how those who do not hold HIS WORD in high esteem, the FINAL authority - will believe ANYTHING ‘man’ tells him and; therefore, put ‘man’s’ words above God’s WORD. Deliberate disobedience which is the wide road.

WeThePeople would never bring EVIL on America - sorry, there is nothing PATRIOTIC for those who fold like a cheap suitcase through fear.

So you are NOT WeThePeople - NEWT was the ONLY WeThePeople candidate - so all those bowing to evil never voted for NEWT - otherwise the CULT leader would never be in the lead. You just got what you deserve and what the GOP wants.

While catholics support a godless CULT leader - they say - peace. Talk about deliberately having their head in the sand.

Now if Romney was totally against and fought against same sex marriage as YOU claim - HERE IS HIS CHANCE to PROVE IT!! - he won’t even address it! What wisdom is there in believing a KNOWN LIAR. Don’t say your weren’t warned.

He won’t even discuss it!! Why should he - he already has his ‘saps’ believing him/a CULT leader and mimicking the lie he told!
