Watching the start of the Olympics in London......Anyone else?
The athletes are smiling in deference to the queen?? Sigh....I’m losing brain cells listening to this....
It will probably be Chinese Taipei, as usual.
The She-Male is carrying the flag for South Africa?!?!?!?!
UCONN! Suriname swimmer. Sweet.
“Chinese Taipei”
[Cut to Commercial! CUT TO COMMERCIAL!]
I’ll grant this to NBC, or whoever is running the cameras. They do a good job of showing the eye candy!
They don’t even get to carry in their own flag.
Thailand?
Sorry, let me qualify my statement.
I thought it was visually brilliant. And brilliantly executed, in terms of pace and skill. Use of music, visuals, comedy etc.
Like you and everyone here, there were themes in it I didnt like or thought overdone.
I think it might have been better if more people knew who Tim Berners-Lee is.
Agreed. The flag bearer for Turkey was hot.....
Agreed. The flag bearer for Turkey was hot.....
Yeah Puerto Rico, a ‘country’ that has never been independent gets to fly their own flag, but Taiwan doesn’t?
Bravo Sierra.

Heres The Opening Ceremony Tribute To Terrorism Victims NBC Doesnt Want You To See
Timothy Burke
The major transitional element of today’s London Olympics opening ceremony was a downtempo performance of adoptive sporting anthem “Abide With Me” by Scottish singer Emeli Sandé. The song and accompanying dance were a tribute to the victims of the 7/7 terror attacks in London that claimed 52 victims days after the 2012 Summer Olympic hosts were named. (It’s also been suggested the performance was a memorial to the war dead.)
Regardless, it was a rather significant and emotional moment in the opening ceremony, coming just before the parade of nationsand it wasn’t aired in the United States. Instead, viewers were treated to a lengthy and meaningless Ryan Seacrest interview of Michael Phelps. NBC regularly excises small portions of the opening ceremony to make room for commercials, but we’ve never heard of them censoring out an entire performanceespecially to air an inane interview. We’ve asked NBC why they didn’t air the tribute, and if they get back to us we’ll let you know what they say. In the meantime, enjoy the performance everyone else in the world saw. [BBC]
Paul McCartney coming up?
Penny Lane would be appropriate.
With the celebration of Socialism, “Back in the USSR” would be appropriate.
The U.S outfits look stupid.
Their still calling it that?
Brother!
Ha ha, no kidding.
Wow, Costas admits Mitt saved the 2002 Winter Olympics.
My respect for Costas has shot up immensely tonight.
