Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has emerged as one of three Republican officeholders who political handicappers say have the most potential to unify the party and boost the fortunes of GOP standard-bearer Mitt Romney as a running mate in November.
While Mr. Romney has revealed little about his vice-presidential search, Mr. McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are widely seen as reliable economic and social conservatives at a time when the party faces the possibility of factional divisions heading into next months convention in Tampa, Fla.
The Virginia governor, experienced analysts note, is a staunchly pro-life Catholic with a fiscally conservative reputation and no known opposition among evangelicals, whose votes have been vital to GOP electoral success and many of whom are skeptical about Mr. Romneys Mormon religion.
The Virginia governor is considered a competent, and at times engaging, speaker not likely to upstage Mr. Romney unlike, say, more charismatic figures such as Mr. Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

If the current occupant of the White Hut actually respected the Constitution and the doctrine of separation of powers, I’d agree with you. But Obama has already shown that he doesn’t give a flying damn about Congress. You could have 3/4 majorities in both the House and the Senate AND a solidly conservative Supreme Court and given the current spinelessness of Republicans in leadership positions, he’d STILL just go his merry way and pass whatever laws he wanted by executive orders.
If Obama gets back in office, he appoints Supreme Court justices (assuming the probability that at least one dies or retires in the next four years) and flips the court from conservative to liberal. Do you really think the Republicans in Congress will have the balls to stand up and fight Obama on appointments? We already got Kagan and Sotomayor thanks to them.
If Congress was (a) truly conservative, which it isn’t, and (b) aggressive, which it isn’t, then I might be willing to agree with you. But I can’t. I don’t like it but I am probably going to have to hold my nose and vote for Romney in the slim hope that he can be swayed more to the right. Because four more years of the Marxist-in-Chief running roughshod over the Constitution, unfettered by the eunuchs on Capitol Hill, is too horrible to contemplate.

The average Joe GOES WITH THE FLOW and dead fish are needed by the establishment.
BTW.. Freedom of Speech applies to public places (government ran).. not PRIVATE areas (like privately owned websites).
You think I’m here to humor you and should roll and over and LMAO at your deliberate insults? Guess again, I’m not your audience.
I think you're an amusing play-toy.
I enjoy the antics of the unhinged and you are among my favorites.
okie01, just because I am NOT voting for Romney, does NOT mean I am voting FOR Obama.. I really wish you people would stop trying the ‘guilt trip’ method to vote for someone whom I am against (I am against BOTH of them).
A point MUST be made that we Conservatives are not taking this BS any longer.. either the GOP(e) get on the same page with us, or we will cast them out with a polite, ‘screw your socialist ideas, we don’t want it’.
We have lost a few great FReepers because of some crap like this (in the last 3+ years)... I don’t want to lose more good minded people hanging on the edge (This is JimRob’s site, and I feel the same as him about Conservatism.. we need to clean house to get the scum out of our party. We need to get Conservatives in the House and Senate to bleach (fumigate) the whole system, including the ‘tax-code..).
Speaking for myself, and my image of FreeRepublic, that is what this site is all about, keeping our freedoms and rights the way that the founders intended this great country to be. IF we say something similar to, “well, we lost this time with this candidate, but we will get them next time”, then they have won AGAIN.. (R) has been slipping to the left for decades.. we need to put a STOP to this.
WE need to make a statement, even IF Romney wins, we need to send a message to the GOP(e), get your crap in order, or you are all done and finished... WE don’t follow/support your crap.. and WE will change it. “GO the way of the WHIGS”.. bye-bye..
I didin’t post this to insult anyone... but I am trying to make the point so that many will understand where WE Conservatives are going... If it takes an Obama win to get the country into a Civil War, so be it.. whatever it takes.. IF Romney gets elected... we want him, and the GOP to know, we aren’t taking this socialist crap anymore (through the lack of support)...
I, in NO way support Obama.. but likewise, I will not support Romney either.
If he endorses Mitt he is endorsing what godless Mitt endorses which is evil. I don't care what 'he says' - if someone is so opposed to somethings and yet endorses it - there is NO Truth in him!
You expose evil, you don't endorse it. It shows what really is inside of him - evil is stronger than what 'he says he believes' as it overtook him, he bowed to it and endorses it - he has been defeated of everything he claims he is for.
If you see me as unhinged, I’m doing something right and how humble of you to say that.
You, the town clown, the carrier of mitt’s water while deliberately wearing a mask so not to be associated with him, is the toy Mitt uses to keep his vengeance against a PATRIOT going for four years. Nice going, puppet! Get your strings checked, you are losing it!
I’m not a Mittbot I wanted Newt and I was very upset about what happened in the Virginia primary. I do disagree with the state on the tolls and the ones coming on 95. However, McDonnell is a decent gov, certainly not a left winger. I’m not sure picking him would be a good move, but I would support a Mitt, BoB ticket over Obama any day. I want more conservative government and this could be a good start when you couple that with a gop controlled house and possible the senate.
I think that BoB could help in nova, and state wide, because while most will not agree with him on all issues, most would prefer him over Obama. There are a lot of moderates in nova, and he could help to cut into Obama support there, which would spell doom for Obama.
I also think he would help out greatly nationwide, because he is a good speaker and presents himself well. Not sure he would be the best choice. I’m not sure he is needed to help carry Virginia, but Goode may throw a wrench in the works, so maybe he is.
I think Romney without Goode in the race would win by close to 10%, just a guess, but it is not very close. Not sure how much Goode will get, maybe 2 or 3 but that will not be enough for zero.
I don’t want Romney to be the GOP anymore than you do, but he’s the one who will be run against Obama. It’s either Romney or Obama for the next four years.
I’ll take my chance with Romney over the Manchurian Candidate muslim currently in the White House.
I’m certain McDonnell feels the same way.
WRONG, HE was for him from the beginning and in the evil tactic of keeping a PATRIOT off the ballot. The guy doesn't expose evil but is a very part of it. So no more talk about what 'he says' his 'firm beliefs' are - save it for the easily deceived.
The media said the same about Barry. Seems conservatives are of the same mindset. Just push the looks with no substance, we will win the clueless every time. Doesn't matter what JOKER romney may choose - he's still evil and it doesn't change him one bit. Taking evil and trying to wrap it in something good to deceive, you still have evil at the core!
His career as an elected politician is over, as is Bolling's, and probably Cantor's.
Romney and his cronies in Virginia have demonstrated to us conclusively that they don't want to win.
The Republican party has a chance to fix that problem at the Convention.
Reality is reality. It is what it is.
Romney or Obama will be the next president. I’ll take my chances with the republican. Was he my original choice, not by a long shot, but it is what it is.
Don’t think so.
I never suggested such a thing and don’t have to prove anything to you.
‘Pod.
Short, sweet and to the point. Quote of the month!!
