Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has emerged as one of three Republican officeholders who political handicappers say have the most potential to unify the party and boost the fortunes of GOP standard-bearer Mitt Romney as a running mate in November.
While Mr. Romney has revealed little about his vice-presidential search, Mr. McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are widely seen as reliable economic and social conservatives at a time when the party faces the possibility of factional divisions heading into next months convention in Tampa, Fla.
The Virginia governor, experienced analysts note, is a staunchly pro-life Catholic with a fiscally conservative reputation and no known opposition among evangelicals, whose votes have been vital to GOP electoral success and many of whom are skeptical about Mr. Romneys Mormon religion.
The Virginia governor is considered a competent, and at times engaging, speaker not likely to upstage Mr. Romney unlike, say, more charismatic figures such as Mr. Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Romney/McDonnell - makes me want to go grab a Big Mac. But, I think it’s a good ticket.
Romney was selected by the same political elite that selected Obama. This election Romney is supposed to be the designated loser because he will move this nation towards their socialist dictatorship slower than Obama would.
If Romney by some fluke wins in November, there might be a few silver linings. Those elite who pushed for Romney as a loser might loose some influence and as a result 2016 should be easier for conservative candidates. Also if Romney conducts himself the same as he did when governor of Massachusetts, he will have the voters so angry that Sarah Palin will be a certain win in 2016.
I don’t find any disagreement with you on the subject of politicians, my friend.
We’re not cranky enough any more. Wait until the federal budget cuts come. We live off the fat of government more than most states, so we’re comfortable with status quo - and politicians get rewarded for it. When that changes and state government has to make tough decisions, that will make our state politics interesting again.
“And people who would assist Obama to gain a second term probably aren’t truly conservative, either.”
So, now you are saying Jim Robinson is not a conservative because he refuses to vote for Romney? You ABO (actually romneybots) just can’t help insulting people with principle on this forum. You just don’t get it do you? Don’t support Romney on FR and don’t insult persons who refuse to support that scumbag on FR.
Tell them all how “WE” really feel Jim.
My observation is that more -- and nastier -- insults are being hurled by the "people with 'principle'".
Actually, I understand your position (and Jim's). I just don't agree with it.
Your “conservative” friend above stated the Romney RINO equivalent of if you own a small business, you did not build it. Someone else built it. Then he took it a step further and said, you don’t own it and don’t have the right to control it.
Never forget, my friend. My preferred invited guests on this grassroots pro life conservative site are likeminded pro life conservatives. RINOs are barely tolerated.
A good thing?
So then enjoy your same sex marriage and PRO baby killing -SOCIALISTIC healthcare - liberal judge appointing - gun grabber - KNOWN LIAR and CULT LEADER, Mitt the Maggot.
All his filth he brought on MA is ANTI-American!
Good bye MittBot!
We hardly knew you!
But a conservative you were not!
Says who, McDonnell? Well then he's a liar like mitt. He's a Pelosi catholic. Let's see what God says. He certainly does live according to God's Word.
"If we claim to have fellowship with HIM yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth". 1 John 1:6
"Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together". Deuteronomy 22:10
"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?"
"Therefore do not be partners with them". Ephesians 5:7
"Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather EXPOSE them". Ephesians 5:11
"But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from ME, you who break God's laws (you evil doers)'" Matt 7:23
"Then HE will say to those on his left, 'Depart from ME, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Matthew 25:41
Why, will romney no longer be a godless CULT leader and no longer the INITIATOR of same sex marriage in MA and PRO BABY KILLING?
Jim, - you want godless - support it - but leave your wish list down because there will ALWAYS be animosity towards EVIL. I can see why you don't 'get it'...."The fear of the LORD is to hate evil."
So a mittbot, MC, finally admits there are people with NO principles!
I’d kick you out of my house, also. I detest bratty children who think they rule the roost with their mouth or temper tantrums. Lack of respect above 3 years old is NEVER tolerated. If not reigned in - they grow up to be liberals. See how you exposed yourself?
Funniest thing I've read here all night. Convince people not to Vote the top of the Ticket so Obama waltzes back into power for another four years and they will magically show up for all the down ballot Republican Candidates.
FR Posters might do that, but the average Joe will stay home and watch American Idol. Obviously a winning strategy.
Oh yeah, unless we get a 2/3rd’s Majority in the House and Senate, Obama will Veto anything the Republicans push through, including repealing Obamacare. Then we have to deal with Obama’s three SCOTUS picks. Yep, sounds like the right move to preserve the Republic.
Well, back to the Cars, Dogs, Guns and Kitten Threads for me. Don't want to upset anyone lurking or Posting here.
Bravo! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote. Some of the FReepers on here think they’re going to TEACH the Republicans a lesson by not voting for Romney. Then they will biotch and moan for another 4 years when zero gets re-elected. Maybe there is some truth to the phrase - the stupid party!
I need to clarify that I’m not thrilled with Romney - never have been - but, we have no other choice - other than zero - and I’m sure not going to waste or throw my vote away by either not voting or do a write in - either way is a guarantee that zero gets another 4 years.
Hopefully, we can maintain the House (while getting rid of Boehner) and take the Senate. If Romney wins - we can hold his feet to the fire. After all, most presidents want more than one term in office. Their ego demands to see their names in the history books. Bill Clinton moved middle of the road to win a second term - the squatter currently occupying our House has no such intentions, and I can’t bear another 4 years of him.
That is so false, and Bill Clinton could tell you about it ~ a bunch of Puerto Rican mad bombers and gunmen tried to change the political balance in the Congress by simply killing off the members!
Bill, bless his little stone heart, eventually commuted their stentences ~ and I believe pardoned some of them.
But that is still a political reality ~ so don't lead people to believe it's also THE ONLY OPTION ~ else you might get some of them trying to do it again.
We do not need to be part of that field of study. And even with a 2/3 majority, and us not quite having it, that doesn't mean that Senators and members of the House cannot be persuaded the old fashioned way ~ with argument, debate, action in their home districts, and so on.
Now with some of them that's not true of course since they are Stalinists ~ like that old gal up in Chicago ~ no way she can be persueded, but she sometimes votes out of spite when she discerns she's being totally ignored by the other Democrats.
Part of the rules we ought to have is to try Constitutional processes ~ 'til it hurts. Leave to the Puerto Ricans and the leftists to use violence.
I’m not a fan of the zot. But there ARE exceptions. Some of the romney rah rah girls are getting pretty obnoxious.
He needs his federal job so he'll do whatever he has to do to keep it.
You get out into Fairfax, Loudon, Prince William and other counties and we even have politicians who've pushed back against the hordes of Leftist sponsored illegal aliens ~
Biggest mistake you can make in this region is to bad mouth the people who work for the federal government ~ because a lot of them do ~ not a majority by any means, but enough so that probably everybody who's lived here a couple of generations has a relative somewhere with a federal connection, either as an employee or as a contractor.
I think that's probably the case in most Congressional districts ~ that you do well when you avoid badmouthing the largest body of employees in the area.
Stan Paris, one of the most conservative Representatives in United States history used to represent the whole area quite well. His constituent services were top notch, and his voting record on federal pay and benefits issues was perfect. He also voted for God and Country!
He and a fellow named Herb Harris, a Democrat, passed the district back and forth several times ~ Herb was a bit more conservative than Stan, but he was also absolutely perfect when it came to voting on federal pay and benefit issues.
That may not be the way things are elsewhere ~ since the federales are a smaller part of the local constituency, but we have 1 out of 7 working for the federal government, and then just Fairfax alone has 180,000 lawyers ~ and you can imagine what they do.
