This silliness has mostly been fun for me, as I suspect, unlike the media, the average American voter couldn't care less about it; however, it does have an element of Obama and the left's ongoing war against success in it.
Some are forgetting that, not only does Romney speak with experience and success when it comes to running an Olympics, it was far from America's best moment when it risked botching an Olympics of its own back in 2002.
They can like it, or not, Mitt Romney is largely credited with hauling those, and Salt Lake's ashes out of the fire, suggesting he's competent and capable. What I see is a seasoned executive speaking with some authority gained from significant experience versus a bunch of preening children not appreciating being smacked in the face with a bit of reality.
Cameron looks like a petulant brat here, instead of focusing on what's important, he's self-absorbed as his and Britain's wobbly egos seem to have been bruised. Oh well, life happens - which is basically what Romney was conveying in his remarks - that, and it's wise to be prepared for it.
All things considered, as I think and hope Americans will prefer the adult in the room in November - that's Romney - as opposed to four more years of an ostriched plumed politician like Obama (and Cameron is increasingly looking like one, too for the little that's worth to American voters), I'm tempted to go back to bed so I can continue to not lose sleep over a less newsworthy story than that annoying Queen's Jubilee we recently had to endure thanks to America's silly, elitist media.
This pompous non-circumstance is already getting decidedly old.

David Cameron wasted no time in rebuking Romney hours after his remarks were broadcast. On a visit to the Olympic Park, the prime minister said: "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."
Yep, he was quite a character.

Britain couldnt have won the war without America and Canada (who were actually our biggest supplier of arms and material). And the Commonwealth and Empire. Without the US-Canadian armies, we couldnt have solely taken on and defeated the Nazis and Italians, Vichy French and the Japs. Also of course the huge USSR contribution which kept 75% of all Germans away from the West....
America couldnt have won the war without the British. Without our (then still) huge resources, manpower and material and those of Canada, India, NZ, SA, Australia.
American troops would never have landed in Europe or N Africa without the Royal Navy. And the RAF.
In fact without the predominately British-Canadian victory in the Battle of the Atlantic, US troops would never have crossed the sea....
And where would America have been without the British nuclear secrets OR the British codebreakers?. Or the many British technological breakthroughs (Colossus, Bailey Bridge, PLUTO, the Mulberry Harbours etc etc)?......
So the idea that America saved us is pure fiction. And insulting.

Seriously, does anybody know what Romney actually said? The only thing about these tempest in a teapot which I caught on the radio was the interviewer talking about London's preparation problems and Romney answering that none of that was going to matter once the well-prepared athletes from all over the world took the stage today.
Really? Can anyone explain how a complimentary statement on the athletes got twisted into a critical statement on London's preparations or lack thereof?

I think a lot of resentment from Americans comes from how Europe mishandled the peace after WWI.
No event, with the possible exception of the marathon, has had so many protests, and counter-protests as the men's relays. In 1948, although the United States won the 4 x 400m relay easily, one of the change-over judges ruled that the USA exchange was outside of the passing zone. Consequently, by rule, the USA team was disqualified.
By the time the USA protested the medals had been handed out to GB, Italy and Hungary. However after carefully reviewing film of the controversial baton pass, the stewards decided that the baton had been exchanged legal. Furthermore, they instructed the British team to pass up their gold medals to the USA team.
Prior to our involvement in WWII, the Lend Lease Act kept you from being worn down by attrition. Without it and without our contributions, Normandy and the liberation of Europe would have never been possible....and you know it.

I'd suggest that a larger city would have an easier time with logistics as the relative impact of a large influx of peeps on the existing infrastructure would be smaller.
London has a larger airport (and maybe a 2nd one), more lodging and more public transportation on an absolute basis.
The security issue could easily be the opposite for nearly the same reasons (excepting the MUCH larger number of militant islamists in London which makes it even more difficult to control/prevent "events" there, even if the security team weren't recently beefed up at the last minute).
I think business at Trolley Square is still down since that event.

It was the British (along with French and Australian and Canadian troops) who took the brunt of the German counterattack in Easter 1918 (the ‘kaiserschlact’).
And it was the BRITISH who bore the brunt of what became known as the ‘Hundred Day Offensive’ in the summer of 1918, that drove the Germans back to the German border.
Frankly the Canadian and AUSTRALIAN units in 1918 did as much, if not more, to drive the Germans back.

Are Americans aware of just how many major sports events and tournaments Great Britain hosts and has hosted in recent years?. And how many it is due to host just this decade?.
Not one so far with any violence, terrorism or problem. From Glasgow to London, Cardiff to Edinburgh.

Pity they waited until 1918, since the U.S. help was superfluous and all. 1,000,000 fresh American troops meant the end for Germany and they knew it - they could not fight for another two, three or four years because their support at home was collapsing.
I'm sure we appreciated the training and equipment - it was, after all, the least you could do, since it really wasn't our party in the first place.
