Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.com, and his wife, MacKenzie, have agreed to donate $2.5 million to help pass a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington State, instantly becoming among the largest financial backers of gay marriage rights in the country.
With the gift, the couple have doubled the money available to the proponents of Referendum 74, which would legalize same-sex marriage in the state by affirming a law that passed the Legislature this year. Courts or lawmakers have declared gay marriage legal in six other states, but backers of such measures have never succeeded at the ballot box.
Proponents of the effort in Washington State called it a game-changing gift that gives them a fighting chance in November.
To get this from a straight, married couple sends a powerful message that marriage is seen as a fundamental question of fairness, Zach Silk, the campaign manager for Washington United for Marriage, said Thursday in an interview.

I just logged in and sent an email to them that I won’t be ordering anything from Amazon in the future.
I received a request from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation asking for free product to be used in a test for one of their left wing grant projects. Had to laugh. Told them to fax in their PO and how much it will cost if they wanted the material.
Will never use Amazon and will double up on chicken sandwiches.
There is some reason in your decision. However, I would first expect current Amazon to disavow or disassociate itself with its founder’s action.
Maybe Bezos needs to focus a little less on his homosexual agenda and a little more on running his business: Visual Summary Of AMZN: 263x PE Multiple, 1.2% Operating Margin, $7 Million Net Income And 69,100 Employees.
I don’t think it’s a company policy. The owner of the company was asked his oppinion and he gave it. There are gays working there and if two of them wanted to get married, if they’re in a state that recognizes gay marriage, the company would not fire them.
What this crap is all about is not being able to have an oppinion. It’s the thought police in action. And remember, the tables could turn and you would be punished for your oppinion that you just posted.

How Amazons ambitious new push for same-day delivery will destroy local retail.
So with only 1.2 % operating margin would a Christian boycott shut them down?
The Gay Card has become the new Race Card in this country.
I just cancelled my account.
according to this article, Bezos is still the president.
We’re running out of places to shop.
Did you see this one:
Office Despot teams up with Lady Gaga:
Oh goody. So now the company is Homozon?
I just checked my Amazon Prime membership. It would have renewed automatically next week, but I turned off automatic renewal and will let it expire.
Amazon reaps a double reward from Prime. Beyond the up-front 79 bucks, it gets a lot of customer loyalty. The membership fee is a sunk cost and, all things being equal, the fact that shipping from Amazon is then free for a year means that they have positioned themselves to be the cheapest alternative in most cases.
So now, due to their stand on gay marriage, they have lost that edge, in addition to the $79, from at least two subscribers. Here’s hoping there are many more.
You’re joking, right?
I quit buying from Amazon years ago.
I am not canceling my Amazon account.
It may not be popular around here, but I think Bezos can do what he wants to with his own money. The problem is that if every person who opposes same sex marriage (as I do) quits doing business with Amazon, it won’t hurt Bezos. He already has more money than he can ever spend. However, it will hurt his employees, many (if not most) of whom probably are opposed to same sex marriage. They could lose their jobs over something like this. And there are also numerous authors that could be negatively impacted.
As I seem to recall hearing from a certain pompous bloviator, “Boycotts only hurt the folks.”
If Rahm Emmanuel was consistant he would start working on banning people from using Amazon, right?
You really have to quit being reasonable. See post 37
