Tension over the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy reached the Sacramento region this week after 10 members of an area summer camp staff walked out in response to the firing of a gay staff member.
Local BSA officials said the young man was fired not because he is gay, but because he failed to heed repeated requests to dress appropriately for camp. Specifically at issue were his painted fingernails and earring, although one senior official said there were also complaints about his mannerisms and behavior.

On the other side, Randy Thomasson, president of the website SaveCalifornia.com, which bills itself as an advocate for traditional family values, said the Scouts had every right to dismiss Griffin.
"The Scout policy is well known," Thomasson said. "The Boy Scouts have high standards for behavior. The Boy Scouts ought to be commended for maintaining their high standards.
"This guy should not have been working there once he decided he was against their stance on sexuality," he said.
Still, the firing came as a shock to Griffin, a Vacaville native who grew up in a Scouting family.
"As I grew up in the Boy Scouts, I realized I was queer at a young age," he said.

Excellent thoughts.
These same principles also apply to the current hubbub over Chick-Fil-A.
Why doesn’t the homosexual get a job taking care of the elderly?
Why must he be around young boys?
Why don’t they just open Camp NAMBLA?
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
No parent wants their kids around some freak like this.
Not only do I not want my kids exposed to a freak like that, I don't want to be exposed to freaks like that either!
That's what I call 11 for the price of 1. Who knew there were so many queers at the camp....
How right they are about that!
I’m not laughing when I say they were probably working together.
It was common for pervs in the scouts to gather together to run the summer camps. Easy pickings; total control.
They are free to do that, but won't. I was surprised when they started the Gay Olympics during the 1980s (later changed to the Gay Games). That was a decision to separate themselves from the mainstream, and something that a large number of people view as a really bizarre event. Maybe they weren't having much success competing in the real Olympics.
If Sandusky painted his nails & wore earrings he’d be head coach now, instead of on suicide watch in the slammer.
The mentally ill should not be in charge of our youth.
Keep in mind that all these Scout Troops need liability insurance. Would you write insurance for an organization that allowed gay leaders? All the rules are written to protect the boys from the leaders and the fellow campers.
Having had a bad experience with a homo during my first scout camp experience and then trouble with a homo when I was a Scout Master...I can attest to the wisdom of weeding out the homos if possible. When I was 1l a camp counselor tried to get into my bunk with me..my 6” inch knife made him change his mind. We were allowed a bit bigger knives in those days.
Why, at this very moment these ten are likely to be presenting oral arguments in support of his proclivities.
A good thing you took the scout motto seriously.
You probably don’t realize how right you are. Especially given the gay friendly atmosphere at Penn State which made it all possible.
Then they wouldn’t be able to access new victims; they’d be stuck with the few kids of parents worthless enough to buy into their filth.
