Maybe the idea of gays in space is just so exciting that it has overwhelmed Sally Ride's eulogists, who really should be parsing her achievements in astrophysics, accident investigations and middle-school education, rather than trying to make hay out of her mellow lesbian romantic life.

Could you cite your source that the average life expectancy of a lesbian is 42? I don't like it when Freepers make things up anymore than when Brian Ross makes up his own reality.
Yet of the original 16 Project Gemini astronauts, 11 are still alive. All in their ‘80’s.
Of the 5 who died, Grissom and White were killed in Apollo 1. Conrad died in a motorcycle accident at age 69. Gordon Cooper of a heart attack after suffering from Parkinson’s at age 77. Only Wally Schirra suffered from lung cancer before dying of a heart attack at age 84. This may have been a result of his being a pack a day smoker.
I’ve met Jim Lovell in his restaurant in Lake Forest. He’s a really nice guy. Good restaurant too.
Just like Hollywood put Rock Hudson in a position to be idolized by our young daughters.
Exposure to STD’s is another vector for cancers of all kinds, especially in someone so young.
Here is a woman who kept her sexuality private and did not go parading around in Gay Pride Parades and wasn’t a gay activist. She was an accomplished woman who happened to be gay and remained private about it. Yet for some posters on this board, she still was a sick pervert who was in a dangerous position to turn our kids queer. I strongly disagree. By that logic, gay people should be banished to some remote area whether or not they keep their sexuality to themselves. That isn’t fair to anyone. And I am against gay marriage, against “gay rights” and in no way, shape or form a supporter of the gay agenda.
She would have been better off to be abstinent and smoke a pack of cigarettes every day.
The life expectancy for smokers is 13 years longer.
Note that some studies have found a high fat diet is a risk factor, but not a "piscovegetarian" diet.

Agree, please cite the source for this. Possibly you are erroneously thinking that lesbians have exactly the same health risks as male homosexuals?
I know, but cancer is statistical in nature. The official health model is for a linear, no threshold response. I was pointing out that she was exposed to an environment others are not.
Tereshkova is still alive, so there may not be anything special about being a woman in space.
While homosexual men have a raft of health issues, there does not seem to be a corresponding bunch of problems for homosexual women. There may be elevated instances of breast cancer, but that’s not a strong correlation. There is no correlation to pancreatic cancer that I could find documented.
I asked for a source citation that the average age of death of a lesbian is 42 years of age. I am aware of the dangers of the homosexual lifestyle. Assuming I am not is conjecture on your part.
I am not an apologist for the homosexual lifestyle, far from it. If you're going to quote that the average age of lesbian death is 42, I want to see the research that backs it up.
I don't like made-up stuff by George Stephanopoulis or anyone that posts questionable 'facts' on here that open FR to ridicule.
Cite your source, please.
Not any more idiotic than a reply that I saw on a Paterno thread. Someone there claimed that Sandusky caused Paterno's "early death". My reply, "Well that and the fact that Paterno was an 84 year old man with terminal cancer".
Don’t be discouraged, I’m sure you will soon find that peer reviewed medical study that states that lesbianism causes pancreatic cancer.

I’m waiting for a reply, as well. It could be awhile.
Sally Ride did not rub our faces in her sexual orientation as many famous people do today. She simply lived her life.
To correlate her lifestyle with getting pancreatic cancer is not right.
My father, a tri-athlete, smoked an occasional cigar and drank red wine once in awhile. He was in tip-top shape and died of a glioblastoma.
Cancer happens and I hope 0% doesn’t have to go through half of the grief I have in the last year and a half.
Who in the world are these people that make such stupid statements?
A) They’re young and have never experienced the death of a loved one
B) They’re a troll trying to stir things up and make us look bad
C) You tell me, because I give up :)
I saw it on a sci fi channel show. I was unaware they had been debunked..

She’d been married to a male fellow astronaut back around the day.
Every male homosexual I now know of 40-50 had once been married and has kids. Maybe it’s statistical, or just me...but it does seem a bit odd.
She died of pancreatic cancer.
I didn’t know anything about her sex life or anything until yesterday, and I really did not care to know. I assume NASA knew all about her personal life and let it go. I also assume that she did not publicize her proclivities because her causes would be harmed if she did.
Good for her.
Can’t tell you how P.O.’d I am about our lack of space capabilities today. We’ve gone back at least 40 years.
