Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said late Monday that she would seek a meeting with the National Rifle Association (NRA) to see if there are any ways to find an agreement on how to prevent tragedies like the one last week in Colorado, where one shooter killed 12 and wounded nearly 60 others in a movie theater.
"I'm going to invite the National Rifle Association to one of my meetings," she said on the House floor late Monday. "I want to sit down and talk to them about how we can work together."
Jackson Lee said she hoped to understand whether the NRA could agree to new rules that would require retailers to notify authorities whenever one customer is buying excessive amounts of weapons or ammo, a reference to the Colorado shooter, who is now known to have bought thousands of rounds in preparation for the shooting.
"I want an explanation on why someone can buy 6,000 rounds of ammunition on an Internet without any oversight whatsoever," she said. "Why is there no basis of giving notice?
"If they'd given notice to the local police, maybe someone would have knocked on the door and found out what was going on," she said. "We can find a way to come together. This is not rocket science to determine why you're getting 6,000 rounds."
Jackson Lee also defended some parents for bringing young children into a midnight showing of the latest Batman movie. The youngest to die was a six-year old girl, which raised some questions about what parents were doing with children in the theater so late.
"I understand that," Jackson Lee said. "I was a young mother with my spouse in an area where we moved away from our family, it's hard to find babysitters, and so you take a sleeping baby to the movies. There's no sin in that."

I heard her story in detail not long after it happened - it made a permanent impression on me. I agree with your comment about congress.
,Just send her a letter with one sentence: eliminate gun-free zones, let people be able to defend themselves, as it works everyday, and almost all incidents end without having a shot fired.

6,000 rounds? I’ve got twice that much buried in various caches around my area. It’s all for naught, though, after my accident on the lake, when my boat flipped over, all my guns were lost.

In 1957 the NRA gave some black veterans in Monroe, N.C., a charter for a rifle club and training material. The members of the NRA chartered rifle club used military surplus arms to defend against a convoy of armed KKK members who frequently shot up the black section of Monroe.
You may also find it interesting that the Florida Supreme Court’s 1941 ruling in Watson v Stone which says:
“I know something of the history of this legislation. The original Act of 1893 was passed when there was a great influx of negro laborers in this State drawn here for the purpose of working in turpentine and lumber camps. The same condition existed when the Act was amended in 1901 and the Act was passed for the purpose of disarming the negro laborers and to thereby reduce the unlawful homicides that were prevalent in turpentine and saw-mill camps and to give the white citizens in sparsely settled areas a better feeling of security. The statute was never intended to be applied to the white population and in practice has never been so applied.” - Watson v. Stone, 4 So.2d 700, 703 (Fla. 1941)
The statists don’t want people to know the truth about gun control so the schools don’t teach it and the government controlled media ignores it. It takes a little digging to fine but the truth is out there.
Multiple scenarios for such a meeting:
1. Sit down and listen to her with a tape-recorder running, nod sagely as she yammers, and then tell her they’ll think about it and get back with her.
2. Sit down with her and some very low-level NRA functionary, like say, the telephone receptionist.

I think we should pass a law barring any Congresscritter from commenting in their official capacity on any matter that takes place more than 250 miles outside their district’s borders, foreign policy excepted;)
I think the NRA should take Sheila down to the range and put a Glock 19 in her hands and let her take out some of that anger on a target. Any woman with her level of anger would take to guns like a duck to water.
