Right. And the Aurora atrocity was a prime example, per morning reports.

Perp booby trapped his apartment -- it took about 3 weeks to set up the intricate wiring of explosives.

The Perp turned on his stereo/radio loud and apparently left the apartment around the midnight of the movie premiere. A resident was awakened, became annoyed, and went to the apartment. She knocked on the door, but got no answer. She said she started to open the door, because the door seemed to be unlocked, but she got an eerie feeling and decided to call police instead. [Apparently, by then, the atrocity has already occurred and the police were engaged at the theater. Ironically, that may have saved lives of residents and responders to the apartment noise. Had police responded, they might have opened the door and set off the explosives.]

Had she opened the door, per police, the resulting explosion would probably have destroyed the entire 3-story apartment building; thus, killing those inside.

This Perp apparently planned for about 2 months -- taking time to order materials via the [eeeeevil] Internet. Some 90 packages were sent to his office. He apparently spent about $15k on these materials.

This Perp was bent on killing. His intent included guns, but also extended to explosives. Supposition: had guns not been available, he would have found alternatives -- such as explosives that included gasoline.

If that building had exploded at around midnight when he set the music BEFORE he left for the theatre, the police and all medical units would have rushed there and been unavailable for the movie theatre.

THAT was his strategy.

someone could have called the plice about the loud noise, police arrive and then the explosion..He left the door cracked open, unlocked.
