On Saturday's Today show, as Michael Isikoff filed a report on the drive to make people safer at movie theaters after the Aurora massacre, the NBC correspondent concluded his report by suggesting that, because "the powerful National Rifle Association has blocked any move for stricter gun laws," people will have to settle for "beefed-up security and greater vigilance," as if the NRA were preventing people from being safer.
Toward the end of the report, Isikoff relayed the complaint of gun control activists that it is too easy to obtain certain types of guns. Isikoff:
Nationally, there have been about 60 multiple shootings in the past 18 months. A recurring theme, say gun control activists, is the ability of the shooters to obtain high-powered weapons, such as the AR-15 assault rifle and Glock pistols used by alleged Aurora shooter James Holmes.

Depending on one's job in the military such "training" might have consisted of learning to identify the trigger and which end the bullet comes out. Not all positions require expertise with weapons.

Exactly. Nobody in the theater was armed; the shooter entered through an unlocked emergency exit, bypassing the main entrance.
To be accurate: He came in the front with the crowd. Left via the emergency door (either taping the latch down or blocking the door open depending which account you believe) armed up and came back in the same emergency door.

Since most constituents don't make donations to a politician in the tens of thousands of dollars we will get an aide on the phone because the elected official is casting an important vote or in some committee meeting.
Please , Democrats. Run further left. Voters in Virginia, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio definitely will love it. Ignore the 1994 election results last time the assault weapon ban was in place.
Looks like Isikoff has gotten a clue. The NRA is to stop stricter gun laws from being enacted. DUH!
But the law-abiding citizens were obeying the law that made them targets.
