The difference with Bill Maher is that he says those things for the sole purpose of making headlines for the free advertisement. He's not embarrassed about what he says at the very least. He makes his money saying these things. He's cute in the eyes of the liberals. Unlike Brian Ross, Dan Rather and other so called "journalists" whose livelihood depends solely on not getting caught being a partisan, Bill Mayer could always go back his day job which is being a clown (and a bad one at that).
Keith Obermann did something similar. He always made sure he attacked a republican with an audience that he knew would report on what he had said.
