Bill Maher Uses Aurora Massacre to Attack American Exceptionalism
NewsBusters.org ^ | July 21, 2012 | Noel Shepperd

Leave it to HBO's Bill Maher to use the massacre in Aurora, Colorado, to attack the belief in American exceptionalism.

On Friday, the vulgar comedian took to his Twitter account to claim that James Holmes' actions should be a "reminder that so many of the things that make us exceptional these days are bad":

Rt wingers luv to tout American Exceptionalism - today is a reminder that so many of the things that make us exceptional these days are bad — Bill Maher (@billmaher) July 20, 2012

One has to wonder how stoned Maher was when he wrote this nonsense.

So many of the things that make us exceptional these days are bad?

How can something exceptional be bad?

Most people define "exceptional" as excellent or superior. Can that be bad?

More importantly, a clearly disturbed young man massacred innocents for no reason, and Maher sees this as an opportunity to bash conservatives and the concept of American exceptionalism.

What should make people sadder than the comment itself is that there are so many folks around this great nation who agree with him, and that maybe such anti-American sentiments are part of the problem.

Maher is at the very bottom on our list of positive exceptionalism.

“We should make FR a Maher free zone. Do we really care what this idiot says and if his sycophant fans believe the crap he says or not?”
Exactly, The only reason I clicked on this thread is to see if others felt the way I do.

I think a more serious problem is that Bill Maher is considered a sage commenter in some circles.

Maher is another one who should receive absolutely NO news exposure. When he opens his mouth, it is worse than when the collective rectums of this country loosen.

Bill Maher Uses Aurora Massacre to Attack American Exceptionalism

Why does nutcase Maher need anything to prove that?
Our society tolerates him.

That's tolerance beyond understanding.

Without even having read the article or the thread, only the title of the article, this reminds me of 1994 in San Franpsycho when some berserk nut used a couple of Mac 10s to shoot up a big bunch of lawyers in an office building.

I was in the local burger joint shaking hands and running for local office and some limp wristed little commie in a typical "painters hat" was looking up at the TV and moaning loudly "A sure sign of a sick society!"

I did the politically incorrect thing and proceeded to rimind him that one single sicko will never represent an entire nation unless they're the successor to Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, or some other creeple people no matter which nation it happens to be.

Conclusion jumping with emotional broad sweeping generalizations is usually the work of liberals like him to down grade, disgrace and like Obama, deferat the good nature of this exceptional nation!!!

I may or may not subscribe to "American exceptionalism" the way others do (my religious beliefs are paramount and they are, by modern standards, "fanatical"), but I do love my country the same way everyone loves his country whatever it may be.

I am going to make an observation on these self-proclaimed "America-haters" that I have not made before. I have often pointed out that the Left in other countries is usually hyper-nationalist and patriotic (defending the Sacred Socialist Motherland against the Foreign Devil) and that the American Left's hatred of its own country is atypical and self-defeating (unless they're intentionally alienating people in the manner of professional wrestling "heels"). But what I am about to say now I don't believe I have said before.

These people are all full of baloney. I don't believe they really mean it. Oh, they run down the country every chance that they get, they root for all its enemies, and they believe in the right to desecrate its emblems. But if they hate the country so much, why do they advocate the continual building of the government of this allegedly "lousy country" to the level of almost omnipotence as the solution to the world's problems?

"Native Americans," Blacks, and Hispanics may regularly damn the USA for "genocide" and slavery. Very well. There's a very easy answer to that. If this country is so bad, if it has caused so much trouble . . . formally disestablish it. Declare the Constitution null and void, agree that the United States of America no longer exists, and let all its peoples go back to their lands of origin. If America's existence is so baleful, logically this would be the best possible solution. But has any America-hater ever even suggested such a thing? Of course not! Their universal spiel is "I hate this lousy country so much that I want to be a Senator!" Is that sane? Does that make the slightest bit of sense?

And if the country is so lousy, why is the country's government the answer to every problem? Why do people who read long laundry lists of the US Government's crimes want to make it bigger? Similarly, why would skeptics of the government's benevolence firearms ownership limited to police and military forces? Is that "dissent?" If it is, I'd hate to see what "agreement" is! "This lousy government has murdered billions of people! Give it all your guns!" Duh. As a matter of fact, doesn't the Left in almost every other country urge the people to arm themselves and make a revolution? Our "Left" certainly has a very funny idea of what a "revolution" is--they want it to be carried out by the FBI! To my mind the only Left in the world other than ours that believes the military is the agent of "revolutionary change" is North Korea.

If "patriotism" were defined as loyalty to a government as opposed to loyalty to a geographical homeland or set of ideals, then the "America-hating" US Left would be the most simple-minded, drum-beating, flag-kissing, jingoistic bunch of super patriots in perhaps the entire world.

A similar hypocrisy is evinced by those loud-mouths who constantly claim to be opposed to "western civilization." Yet where do all their ideas come from? From some illiterate Australian aborigine or pristine Siberian shaman? Of course not! All their ideas come from white western Europeans (most of whom are dead). They are incapable of having a thought that they didn't crib from Voltaire, Rousseau, Hegel, Comte, Darwin, or Marcuse. All the so-called "Black theologians" and self-proclaimed "leaders of the indigenous peoples" are frauds and fakes . . . every single one of them. Their heads are stuffed so full of the ideas of dead Germans that it's a wonder they don't explode. Any noise-maker who claims scientific materialism is the philosophy of "real people" or "sharecroppers" or "the dispossessed" or "the masses" is either insane or a liar . . . scientific materialism is the ideology of THE ELITE and always has been. And not just any elite, but the well-to-do dead white European elite.

Leftism is the "whitest," most "western," and most "European" ideology in the history of the world, and all the "Rigoberta Menchus" in the world cannot change that.

Black's are quieter than a hooker in church about the mass genocide of their race due to the practice of abortion. What do they say about the 70% of bastard children born. Slavery was over 150 years ago and 3 amendments to the constitution were added so it would never happen again. But these hyphenated American just need to shut up and start learning some critical thinking skills and morals.

I can hardly think of anyone more unlikable than Maher.

I’d sooner have a drink with the Colorado killer or Mahmood Ahmadinejad.

I’d be happy to have a drink with Maher.

It’s the last drink I would have for about 20 years. Maybe less with good behavior.

Correcting a mistype in my post.

Similarly, why would skeptics of the government's benevolence firearms ownership limited to police and military forces?

This should have read:

Similarly, why would skeptics of the government's benevolence want firearms ownership limited to police and military forces?

I apologize for the error, and for its late correction!
