And in a Conceal/Carry-approved locale, think of how many “morally responsible” individuals might have popped up in their seats to return fire.
Part of the idea of Conceal/Carry is to give the individual bent on destruction pause.

To be honest, if I had been in the theatre and had a handgun (and once I figured out the situation and realized what I would be up against), I think I would have stayed down with the goal of protecting myself and those who were with me - or maybe a "zone" of people if the guy started walking around and methodically executing. At that point - if he got closer - pop up and try to surprise him and unload into him.
Part of my logic would be that if I charged the guy and his AR-15 and got killed I wouldn't be able to protect anybody.
Just my thought while sitting safely at my computer.
