James Holmes, a 2006 Westview High graduate, accused of killing, wounding 70 in Colorado theater
He was as quiet and unassuming as the middle-class North County neighborhood where he grew up. Before he was arrested after a deadly shooting spree in a Colorado movie theater, James Eagan Holmes was known as a loner shy, smart, a bit odd.
But not, people thought, dangerous.
We were honors students that always has a little bit of a stigma of being weird, right? said Jessica Cade, who knew Holmes when they were both UC Riverside undergraduates. But I never would have thought he would do something like this, never considered him to be a lunatic or deranged like the news is calling him.

Look at the pictures when he was much younger and had brown hair....YOUR Gaydar will be going off.
In Britain the pub is the natural cultural meeting place of the community. A beer, a pork pie, a game of darts, and learning about any new abnormal psychiatrists.
Good point about the MS.
My point is that *neuroscience* seems to me to be awfully specific for an undergrad degree. I have known people with degrees in Neuropsychology and they had PhDs.
I did a quick search and actually, this seems to be a boutique program in Social Sciences and Humanities and usually results in a B.A. It blends courses in chemistry, biology, physics, psychology, math and computer sciences. Topics include hormones and behavior, psychopharmacology, genome biology and immunology.
It appears to be a tarted-up psych degree. If you accept that many psych students are looking for self-explanations, then it could be the shooter knew full well he had problems and was looking for an answer.
His father is in the same field of neuroscience, having been involved in the creation of predictive modeling software that went beyond statistical inference and into psychological profiling. The company was bought out by Fair-Isaacs, the providers of the ubiquitous FICO score used in determining creditworthiness. Prior to this, his father was involved in related work for DARPA.
Now that is verrrrrry interesting!
You’d think such an individual would be better qualified than most to spot a psychotic break with reality or a descent into schizophrenia.
Westview High School is where Funky Winkerbean and his friends went to high school—but they graduated in 1988 when Holmes was a baby.
The conspiracy buffs are going to have a field day. This sort of research can involve implantable biomimetics and cortical neural prosthetics, the “implant” fear of tinfoil hatters and schizophrenics the world over.
When I read 100mg Vicodin, I assumed he meant 100mg Hydrocodone, or 10 Norco tabs. If “Vicodin” that’s 20 tabs, or about 7000mg Tylenol (maybe 6500?), which would make you sicker than crap very fast. What is that, 3X max daily allowed?
I don’t believe he pounded down 20 Vicodin.
Very interesting.
Any info on the mom?
RN, not much else.
There was a thread about it being “their guy” (Black Bloc...also the guys who wanted to bomb that bridge in Cleveland) at the Occupy Wall Street .org website forum, but it’s been pulled (I just went looking to see if it’s still there and it’s not).
If OWS claims him as their own, that is good enough for me.

I haven’t heard about the 100 mg of Vicodin. Where did you hear/read this?
But he never smoked.
Or maybe antidepressants. I've seen those things to weird things to peoples' personalities, and erode emotional depth, whether it be positive or negative emotions.
I'm sure there will be more facts emerging which will help place this insanity in some sort of context...
Wish he did scarf 100 mg hydrocodone - its not likely he have been awake to do much.
