I would really LOVE to take this mayor’s idea to the logical conclusion.

A “grand divorce” of the socialists from the Americans.
If we can’t kick them out of the union, then we’ll “kindly request” to be “allowed” to pursue our own destiny in a certain number of like minded states in the midwest & southeast.

Check out the Hartford Convention of 1814. Mass. and the rest of the New England scum wanted out due to losing money during the War of 1812. They were going to join Britain again.
The gov. of Mass. was secretly trying to get a separate treaty with Britain. True. Of course they don't print that in the history books.
Jefferson was on his way up there to try to persuade them to stay. Although he did not DENY THEIR RIGHT TO LEAVE.
It's a shame people gloss over this time period in our history. The war ended and the meeting became a moot point.
