I cannot understand why there is this fear of the smart meter. How can the meter know what device in the home is creating the electrical load? Yes, I know that through the power factor, it can deduce that an induction motor was running. But can it tell the difference between my air conditioner compressor or my 10 hp electric pressure washer or my 7 hp air compressor? As to a computer running. How would it tell the difference between one switch mode power supply and another?
I can see it reporting your usage, but now what is running in your home.
The electric company would have to go on her property to change the meter. In Texas, when you go on someone else’s property you are in/on their “castle”. In essence, the trespassers belong to the homeowner.
They’ll show up again, this time with a boss, a Union-Fascist steward, and the Police. A gunfight will then ensue.
In my state, if one has electric service to a residence, the provider has an easement and they can access and alter their equipment at their will. Hard to believe it’s different anywhere else.

When I was a kid, I knew someone respectable and of good intelligence who wouldn’t have a phone for much the same reasons people today are objecting to high-tech meters.
I could understand it if I were a meter reader.
My sons elec bills have gone up 30% since last summer
since he had a smart meter installed...
also when I went to visit several months ago in 2 days I became to hurt so much and had terrible headaches and had trouble sleeping at night...
I am sensitive to cell phones and don’t use them...
I happened to look at his meter and noticed it was a smart meter..
I moved to the bedroom the most distance from the meter
and the problems were 90% reduced and 100% by the next night
I was happy to get back to the country where we don’t have smart meters
Around here the power company has all kinds of radio commercials with some idiot stating that the new smart meters will allow us to make “smart decisions” about how and when to use electricity.
I can do that now, thank you.
This whole thing is a TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT for Texas. First of all, pulling a gun on someone that is not breaking the law is simply WRONG and is very risky. What if he had his own gun, for example? This lady likely will get arrested and jailed, and should.
Having said that, like most others here, I LOVE HER!!! She will be taking the arrows for millions of us who don’t want a criminal record attached to our names. Believe me, I DEFINITELY do not want a “Smart Meter”, and when the guy came (and I was home) I asked if I had a choice - he said no - and that was as far as I went.
Now, what is the RIGHT answer. Well, in a PROPERLY FUNCTIONING state, the state government would have examined just what these meters are and what risks they pose (such as virtually telling anyone accessing their data when the homeowners are at work or are on vacation). Then, in a PROPERLY FUNCTIONING state, a means would have been created to allow concerned people to opt out. In other words, this lady would have paid, maybe $10 a month more for power, and would NOT have had to draw on the poor installer.
But we’re talking Texas here. We have a TOTAL LOSER as a governor, and the VERY LAST thing that he’s concerned about is the privacy of Texans (heck, he’s trying to impose a GPS vehicle tracking system on us, for tolling). So no hope there. In addition, he has his share of bitches in the state legislature, with Dewhurst just finding out now that his chances of making it to the US Senate basically died with his sucking up.
It is really sad that California, of all states, has done more to protect homeowner privacy than Texas. For in California, people can opt-out (and they don’t need a gun to do it), just by asking and paying a fee for the guy to come by and read the meter.
That is not the second amendment, that is a fool in action

Utilities and their emissaries have no respect for persons.
The 2nd Amendment might be the best way to remove the meter. Target practice.
That's assault, on her property. He's lucky to be alive. I don't brandish and I don't fight fair. She should file charges.
These smartmeters have really caused problems for some people. The power they actually transmit at has been found to be much higher than claimed by power companies, and also a lot more often than stated -every 6 seconds instead of once a minute, as checked by an em rf meter.
On some older houses it’s started fires due to older wiring and some have actually melted shortly within a day or two of installation. Some people have experienced problems with the transmit frequencies.
Since when do power companies have the right to set up transmission modules on our property. These people don’t mind regular metering, they didn’t give per mission to set up a microwave transmitter.
Anything else in my house that transmits, I can either change to cable transmission, or decide I don’t want it in my home. ‘That’s a big difference’between the government sanctioned monopolostic power company forcing this on people and it’s either this or no power.
If the meter is so poorly designed that it can't even prevent the leakage of personal utility usage information to people with no business having it, I'd hardly call it "smart".
A weapon should only be drawn if someone’s life is in danger and you intend to kill someone. Was she really going to kill a man over installing a meter?
A weapon is not a toy to scare people with. If the man assualted her and was trespassing she should of called the police.
I know her. She’s dedicated, as well as her husband. They head the 912 Group in northwest Houston. She and I had a wonderful meeting one night and spent several hours discussing the “fall of America.” Actually, the discussion didn’t break up till around 3:30AM. We compared notes.
