Feinstein: Concealed Carry Gun Bills ‘Dangerous’(uberbarf alert)

New GAO report demonstrates reciprocity gun legislation would endanger lives of citizens, law enforcement

Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the results of a new GAO study she requested on concealed carry legislation that underscores the dangers of gun reciprocity legislation introduced in the Senate. The bills require states to recognize gun permits issued by other states, including those with weaker gun control policies.

The two concealed carry reciprocity bills (S. 2188, S. 2213) require nearly every state to accept the concealed carry gun permits issued by other states—regardless of the permit standards in either state. Senator Feinstein has placed a hold on this legislation.

“The GAO report sheds new light on state policies and practices for issuing and revoking concealed carry permits,” said Senator Feinstein. “The findings confirm my long-standing view that legislation designed to force nearly every state to accept concealed carry permits issued by other states would put the lives of Californians and other Americans at risk.”

The report found that a permit seeker who could not qualify for a permit in one state (due to a disqualifying offense such as a violent crime) could simply apply for a permit in another state that has less stringent requirements and accepts nonresident permit applications. That permit would be valid in other states. The report also found that since most states’ criminal databases are not connected, it is nearly impossible for authorities to determine immediately if one of its permit holders commits a crime in another state.

“This kind of legislation is dangerous to law enforcement and harmful to the public. The expansion of these laws chips away at gun safety standards and undermines states’ rights. I hope that this report will lead Congress to soundly reject this misguided legislation,” Senator Feinstein added.

Concealed carry reciprocity legislation is opposed by major national law enforcement organizations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Major Cities Chiefs Association.

Senator Feinstein wrote the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which was enacted as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 and expired in 2004. The landmark ban applied to the manufacture and sale of 19 types of military-style assault weapons, including UZIs and AK-47s.

I guess they missed the dropping crime rate and the numerous studies showing that CCW does not increase crime.

Oh, look, a study found something favorable to her leftist ideology. That’s so authoritative. And unexpected. As good people begin to defend themselves more and more against reprobate savages expect others like this totalitarian attempt to disarm and imperil them (the good guys, not the bad guys). Watch.

I think that it would be fair for a State to require that a resident of that State should have a CCW permit from that State, and not from another. If you move from State 1 to State 2, State 2 requires that after a certain amount of time you have to get a driver’s license from State 2 and your State 1 driver’s license is no longer valid. It’s not at all valid that if you live in State 1 and are not eligible for a driver’s license there you could travel to State 2, get a driver’s license there and then use it indefinitely in State 1. CCW permits could be the same.

So, Sen. Feinstein thinks there’s an exception to the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution? Good to know when it’s time to argue about the Constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Oh, look, a study found something favorable to her leftist ideology.

Actually, she didn't. What she found was that different States have different standards for CCW's. If the study had further compared the incidence of gun-related crimes in the States with different standard and shown that the States with more expansive standards had greater incidence of such crimes, then she would have had something to support her ideology. But, it didn't. So she's claiming that the different standards endanger children on the basis of - no data at all, just emotional bull$#!t.

Being convicted of a violent felony is a federal disqualification in all 50 states. Unless she means that a misdemeanor shoving-match from 20 years ago should forever disqualify one from CCW.

Look at the full GAO report. It could have been written as an overnight homework assignment by a junior-high-school student. It has very little information or detail, and it does not even prove her point.

Yet Feinstein give a news release on this, to give the impression that some sort of serious research was involved. It is a sham!

Hey Diane, do you carry a gun?

Simple question.

Yes, or no?

She just doesn’t want to admit that California gun laws are draconian.

I've read news reports that she has a concealed carry permit covering two pistols. I believe that one was a revolver and the other a semiautomatic.

Of course, she's only concerned about CCW for other people.

Doesn’t Feinstein have her carry permit in California in spite of them being impossible to get unless you have money or connections?

I remember when you could obtain drivers licenses from numerous states without hindrance.

The federal government stepped in an forbade it.

I am still apprehensive about any federal involvement here, because it intrudes on states ability to have reciprocity agreements among themselves, without having the feds force them down the states’ throats.

For example, what if a Democrat congress passed a law requiring reciprocity between those states who permitted homosexual marriage and those who didn’t? If this gun thing passes, that will almost certainly be on their agenda.

Think of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, where free states were compelled to return slaves to slave states, because being a runaway slave was illegal in slave states.

I do not want Massachusetts or California law crammed down my states’ throat, maybe over treatment of illegal aliens or having to collect that other states sales taxes, or innumerable other crapola like that.

If my state wants to sign a reciprocity agreement with them, it should be our choice to do so, not a federal dictate.

Last I knew, there wre only 7 CCW permits issued in San Francisco.

Di Fi had 2 of them & her bodyguard had one. That leave 4 for the entire rest of San Fran. This all goes back many years.

She is a hypocrite.

And we all know how representative the members of these organizations are of the LEOs on street.
